Olivia Newton-John est attendu les 22 et 23 juillet au Musée de Newbridge Silverware ( pas très loin de Dublin) pour l'exposition des ses costumes ... avant la mise aux enchères de novembre.
Newbridge sera la première étape de cette tournée d’exposition, offrant aux fans irlandais un premier aperçu de certains des costumes de film et des souvenirs les plus emblématiques d’Olivia.

Grease icon Olivia in style show launch

GREASE legend Olivia Newton-John will launch an exhibition in Co Kildare this month.
The four-time Grammy winner is set to visit the Museum Of Style Icons at Newbridge Silverware on July 22 and 23.





Executive director of Julien’s Auctions Martin Nolan said: “Her extraordinary career includes her role in Grease, one of the most successful films and soundtracks of all time.

“Her recordings of some of the biggest singles of the 20th century makes her more than just a star but a pop culture phenomenon.”

Newbridge will be the first stop on the tour, giving her Irish fans the first glimpse of some of Olivia’s most iconic memorabilia.

Electric Light Orchestra frontman Jeff Lynne has often said that of all the songs he has written, ’Xanadu’ is one of his favourites, and one of his best. It’s probably safe to say that most ELO fans don’t share that view, notwithstanding the fact that it was the band’s only UK number one hit.

‘Xanadu’ was recorded in Germany by ELO and Olivia NewtonJohn for the soundtrack of the film of the same name. ELO drummer Bev Bevan recalls that it was a ‘nightmare’ to record as Lynne had originally sent an (out of time) demo of the song to the film’s producers and they shot a dance sequence to that demo.

‘So when we came to record it for real, we had to keep in time with the demo. It was a very frustrating experience, what should have taken a couple of hours took about three or four days.’

Prior to ‘Xanadu’, ELO had failed to reach the UK chart summit, but Olivia Newton-John already had two number ones under her belt - both from the ‘Grease’ soundtrack in 1978.

‘Xanadu’, the movie, which starred Olivia Newton-John, Gene Kelly (in his final film role) and Michael Beck, was panned by critics and a box office flop. However, the soundtrack album was a huge hit. It went double platinum in the US and Gold in the UK and spawned five top-20 singles, including the title track which reached No 1 not only in the UK but also in several other countries, including Ireland.

The ‘Xanadu’ single also hit number eight in the Billboard Hot 100, making it one of seven US top ten hits for ELO, and one of 15 top ten entries there for Olivia Newton-John.

Jeff Lynne, leader du groupe Electric Light Orchestra, a souvent déclaré que de toutes les chansons qu'il avait écrites, «Xanadu» était l'une de ses préférées et l'une de ses meilleures. Il est probablement prudent de dire que la plupart des fans d'ELO ne partagent pas ce point de vue, bien que ce soit le seul hit numéro un du groupe au Royaume-Uni.

«Xanadu» a été enregistré en Allemagne par ELO et Olivia Newton-John pour la bande originale du film qui porte le même nom.
Bev Bevan, batteur d'ELO, se souvient que c'était un «cauchemar» d'enregistrer cette chanson comme Lynne avait initialement envoyé une démo de la chanson aux  producteurs du film et ils ont tourné une séquence de danse avec cette démo.

«Donc, lorsque nous sommes venus enregistrer réellement la chanson, nous devions rester en phase avec la démo. Ce fut une expérience très frustrante. Ce qui aurait dû prendre deux heures a duré trois ou quatre jours.



Avant "Xanadu", ELO n'avait pas réussi à atteindre le sommet du classement britannique, mais Olivia Newton-John avait déjà deux numéros 1 à son actif - tous deux issus de la bande originale de "Grease" en 1978.

"Xanadu", le film, qui mettait en vedette Olivia Newton-John, Gene Kelly (dans son dernier rôle) et Michael Beck, a été démoli par la critique et fut un échec au box-office. Cependant, la bande originale du film a été un énorme succès. Double platine aux États-Unis et disque d'or au Royaume-Uni, cinq singles parmi les 20 premiers titres, dont le titre, qui a atteint la 1re place non seulement au Royaume-Uni mais également dans plusieurs autres pays, dont l'Irlande.

Le single «Xanadu» a également atteint le numéro huit du Billboard Hot 100, ce qui en fait l’un des sept plus grands succès américains pour ELO et l’une des 15 meilleures entrées pour Olivia Newton-John.
