4 AOÛT 1978: Olivia Newton-John, vedette hollywoodienne de la scène locale, a été chahutée par 4000 fans en délire hier soir lors de la première australienne de son super succès au box-office  Grease .

Les spectateurs étaient déchaînées au théâtre Paramount de Sydney, alors qu'ils franchissaient des barricades pour apercevoir la star. Ils avaient commencé à faire la queue trois heures à l’avance. La foule envahissait la rue George et bloquait la route dans leur frénésie pour admirer la nouvelle sensation de Tinseltown.
Les gardes du corps ont eu du mal à empêcher la foule d’écraser Newton-John, alors qu’elle passait d’une Mercedes noire à la sécurité du cinéma au milieu des cris et des hurlements d’admirateurs enthousiastes.

Le film, qui a ouvert ses portes en juin a suscité des critiques élogieuses aux États-Unis et établit un nouveaux records au box-office, met en vedette Newton-John dans le role de Sandy Olsson et John Travolta dans celui de Danny Zuko, et raconte l'histoire de deux amoureux du lycée dans les années 1950.

Le film a propulsé Newton-John sur la liste des stars à Hollywood et en a fait une superstar mondiale.

AUGUST 4, 1978: 
Homegrown Hollywood star Olivia Newton-John was mobbed by 4000 delirious fans last night at the Australian premiere of her box office blockbuster Grease.

Fans moved like greased lightning in wild scenes at Sydney’s Paramount theatre, as they surged through barricades to get a glimpse of the star. They had started queuing three hours beforehand, with crowds spilling across George St and blocking the road in their frenzy to see Tinseltown’s newest sensation.

Bodyguards struggled to keep the crowd from crushing Newton-John, as she made her way from a black Mercedes to the safety of the cinema amid the screams and yells of ­enthusiastic admirers.

The movie, which opened in June to rave reviews in the US and set new box office records, stars Newton-John as Sandy Olsson with John Travolta as Danny Zuko, and tells the tale of two high school sweethearts in the 1950s.

The movie has propelled Newton-John to Hollywood’s A-list and made her a global superstar.
