Ce samedi 2 novembre, la maison de vente aux enchères Julien's Auctions, collaboratrice privilégiée des stars à Los Angeles, a vendu la tenue iconique portée par Olivia Newton-John dans le film Grease, sorti en 1978. En partie destinée à financer le centre Olivia Newton-John de recherche sur le traitement du cancer, cette vente a rapporté deux fois plus que prévu.
Le pantalon taille haute et le blouson de cuir noir, devenus iconiques, marquaient dans le film la transformation du personnage de Sandy, élève modèle tombée sous le charme du rebelle Danny (John Travolta) qui troquait ses vêtements d'écolière pour une tenue rock sexy. Les deux pièces ont été vendues pour un total de 405 700 dollars.
Dans l’une des scènes du film "Sept ans de réflexion" (1956), Marilyn Monroe porte une robe ivoire qu’elle tente d’empêcher de voler alors qu’elle se trouve sur une bouche d’aération. Et bien, cette célèbre robe a été adjugée près de 5 M€, en juin 2011, à Beverly Hills (Los Angeles). Quant à la robe à sequins que l’actrice portait le 19 mai 1962, lorsqu’elle chanta "Happy Birthday to you Mister President" au président américain John F. Kennedy, elle a été vendue pour plus de 4,50 M€, en novembre 2016 à Los Angeles, alors qu’elle avait été estimée entre 1,80 M€ et 2,70 M€.
En novembre 2018, à Los Angeles, à l’occasion d’une vente aux objets de stars, la veste que portait Michael Jackson lors de sa tournée Bad, entre 1987 et 1989, a été vendue 266 000 €, soit trois fois son estimation. La veste trône désormais dans la garde-robe d’un fan du chanteur américain. Lors de cette même vente, l’un des gants de Michael Jackson a été adjugé à plus de 95 000 €. Sa veste en cuir rouge mythique portée dans Thriller a été vendue pour 1,8 million de dollars en juin 2011.
Mais ce n'est rien par rapport à la vente aux enchères d'objets d'Elizabeth Taylor, actrice habituée aux rivières de diamants, organisée en 2011 par Christie's. L'un de ses colliers de perles est en effet parti pour 11 842 500 dollars. Record battu.
Un pull du chanteur du groupe Nirvana avait été porté lors de l'enregistrement du concert "Unplugged" de 1993 est parti pour 334 000 dollars aux enchères au mois d'octobre à New York.
Ce gilet est un modèle vintage, de la marque Manhattan, aujourd'hui disparue. Il porte des marques, notamment un trou de cigarette, et n'a jamais été lavé. Il était estimé entre 200 000 et 300 000 dollars par la maison d'enchères, Julien's Auctions. Le vendeur, Garrett Kletjian, propriétaire d'une écurie de course automobile, Forty7 Motorsports, l'avait acquis il y a quatre ans pour 137 500 dollars.
Un autre objet ayant appartenu à Kurt Cobain, sa guitare Fender Mustang pour gaucher utilisée durant la tournée "In Utero", a été vendu 340 000 dollars.
Gene Siskel, critique de cinéma et spécialiste du film Saturday Night Fever, était le propriétaire du fameux costume blanc porté par John Travolta qu'il a acheté pour 2 000 dollars en 1979 et revendu aux enchères pour 145 000 dollars en 1995...

THE wealth gap between London’s richest residents and the rest of the country has been laid bare in new figures.
Just 10 per cent of the capital’s population hold 66 per cent of the city’s £2,150billion wealth.
In contrast, Britain’s poorest Tell me more...fans can buy 200 items owned by Olivia, right last month region, the North East, has a total wealth of £369billion – more than five times less than London.
The figures, from the Office for National Statistics, mean that London’s most affluent 10 per IF ever an auction sees a celebrity’s costume collection snapped up like Greased Lightnin’ it will be Olivia Newton-John’s.
The actress, 70, is offering fans the chance to buy some of her big-screen outfits.
The most sought after is likely to be the leather jacket and shiny skin-tight trousers from her final scene in Grease with John Travolta.
It is expected to fetch at least £200,000.
The four-time Grammy Award-winning Australian revealed last year she is battling stage four breast cancer, having first fought the disease in 2013.
Olivia also had to learn to walk again after breaking her pelvis earlier this year. But last month she said: “I am strong, I’m feeling good and loving every minute.”
Some of the auction proceeds will go to the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness & Research Centre in Melbourne.
She became an international film and pop sensation when she starred opposite Travolta in the 1978 musical. She followed it with the flop Xanadu in 1980.
The sale of 200 gowns, costumes, and personal items is being run by Julien’s Auctions, LA, on November 2. cent have more wealth than every region outside the South East.

Grease icon Olivia in style show launch
Irish Daily Mirror 2 Jul 2019 GREASE legend Olivia Newton-John will launch an exhibition in Co Kildare this month. The four-time Grammy winner is set to visit the Museum Of Style Icons at Newbridge Silverware on July 22 and 23.
Executive director of Julien’s Auctions Martin Nolan said: “Her extraordinary career includes her role in Grease, one of the most successful films and soundtracks of all time. “Her recordings of some of the biggest singles of the 20th century makes her more than just a star but a pop culture phenomenon.” Newbridge will be the first stop on the tour, giving her Irish fans the first glimpse of some of Olivia’s most iconic memorabilia.

Electric Light Orchestra frontman Jeff Lynne has often said that of all the songs he has written, ’Xanadu’ is one of his favourites, and one of his best. It’s probably safe to say that most ELO fans don’t share that view, notwithstanding the fact that it was the band’s only UK number one hit. ‘Xanadu’ was recorded in Germany by ELO and Olivia NewtonJohn for the soundtrack of the film of the same name. ELO drummer Bev Bevan recalls that it was a ‘nightmare’ to record as Lynne had originally sent an (out of time) demo of the song to the film’s producers and they shot a dance sequence to that demo. ‘So when we came to record it for real, we had to keep in time with the demo. It was a very frustrating experience, what should have taken a couple of hours took about three or four days.’ Prior to ‘Xanadu’, ELO had failed to reach the UK chart summit, but Olivia Newton-John already had two number ones under her belt - both from the ‘Grease’ soundtrack in 1978.
‘Xanadu’, the movie, which starred Olivia Newton-John, Gene Kelly (in his final film role) and Michael Beck, was panned by critics and a box office flop. However, the soundtrack album was a huge hit. It went double platinum in the US and Gold in the UK and spawned five top-20 singles, including the title track which reached No 1 not only in the UK but also in several other countries, including Ireland. The ‘Xanadu’ single also hit number eight in the Billboard Hot 100, making it one of seven US top ten hits for ELO, and one of 15 top ten entries there for Olivia Newton-John.

«Donc, lorsque nous sommes venus enregistrer réellement la chanson, nous devions rester en phase avec la démo. Ce fut une expérience très frustrante. Ce qui aurait dû prendre deux heures a duré trois ou quatre jours.
Avant "Xanadu", ELO n'avait pas réussi à atteindre le sommet du classement britannique, mais Olivia Newton-John avait déjà deux numéros 1 à son actif - tous deux issus de la bande originale de "Grease" en 1978.
"Xanadu", le film, qui mettait en vedette Olivia Newton-John, Gene Kelly (dans son dernier rôle) et Michael Beck, a été démoli par la critique et fut un échec au box-office. Cependant, la bande originale du film a été un énorme succès. Double platine aux États-Unis et disque d'or au Royaume-Uni, cinq singles parmi les 20 premiers titres, dont le titre, qui a atteint la 1re place non seulement au Royaume-Uni mais également dans plusieurs autres pays, dont l'Irlande.
Le single «Xanadu» a également atteint le numéro huit du Billboard Hot 100, ce qui en fait l’un des sept plus grands succès américains pour ELO et l’une des 15 meilleures entrées pour Olivia Newton-John.

Posting to her mum’s account, the 33-year-old wrote, “Hi guys. Chloe here. Just using my mom’s Instagram to say that I don’t have an Instagram up yet … I’m having a blast with my mama, and look forward to coming back to Instagram with projects and ways to be of service to others. Thank you all for supporting my beautiful mama. I feel your love. And so does she.” Last year, Olivia revealed she was facing cancer for the third time, after doctors found a tumour at the base of her spine. The star has remained positive throughout her ordeal and continues to fight for cancer research, even auctioning off memorabilia from 1978’s Grease for the Olivia Newton-john Cancer Wellness & Research Centre in Melbourne.

‘Grease’ Prequel Producers Hope John Travolta & Olivia Newton-John Will Make Cameos & He May Be Down
While they can’t necessarily play their original roles in a prequel, John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John might return for a small cameo in the next ‘Grease’ movie!
With the news that there will be a Grease prequel detailing the summer love story between Sandy Olsson (originally portrayed by Olivia Newton-John, 70) and Danny Zuko (John Travolta, 65) before they attended the same school, fans are probably wondering who’s returning from the original film more than 40 years later. A source close to the original Danny Zuko himself told HollywoodLife EXCLUSIVELY, “Everyone would love to see John and Olivia do a cameo, they wanted it to happen when Grease: Live was around, but so many variables would have to take place between the script, the role, their schedules,” our source revealed. “Never say never but it would not be 100% especially since it might be a few years from now that the film would get off the ground.”
Our source continued, “John only has wonderful memories when it comes to Grease and since everything comes back in one way, shape, or another, he would love to see a new generation fall in love with the characters of Danny and Sandy. He just hopes that they do it justice and make a great film and don’t just phone it in. If it gets to the point of actually being made he would be cool with it and would likely support it.”
People surely would love to see the movie’s original stars make a cameo in the movie – that includes those behind-the-scenes who are involved in making movie decisions at Paramount, all the way to fans who have cherished the film for decades, our source said. “It would be total validation and almost a passing of the torch,” they added. “We would have to wait and see, but the chance is there for John at least, and he would at least take a look at the opportunity.”
While our source expressed that John would likely be interested, Olivia might not make an appearance in the prequel. The actress told HollywoodLife EXCLUSIVELY, “I don’t think you can repeat things, you can’t go back. I think in the olden days I used to tell people that I would cringe watching it and asked myself why I did that or I could have done that better. But now with all the time and all the love people have for it I can relax and enjoy it. But I don’t believe going back and redoing it.” The high school musical Grease was released in 1978, and remains a true classic even decades later. The movie had a sequel in 1982 with Michelle Pfeiffer, 60, and the aforementioned television musical, Grease: Live, in 2016.
