Olivia Newton-john’s decades long love affair with her Grease co-star John Travolta has been laid bare in a revealing new biography.

In Matthew Hild’s newly released A Little More Love: The Life and Legacy of Olivia Newton-john, the author interviewed those closest to the singer and actress, who sadly passed away on August 8, 2022, after a long-fought battle with breast cancer, aged 73.

“I don’t quite have the smoking gun, but I think the preponderance of evidence is pretty darn suggestive,” he told People magazine of what he turned up.

Among the stories he uncovered was one from actress Didi Conn, who played Frenchy in Grease. Speaking with journalist Stephanie Nolasco, she said she believed John, now 72, had a genuine attraction to Olivia and there was no faking their on-screen chemistry in the 1978 film.

‘They weren’t acting … it was real’

In fact, they shot an alternate ending to the movie in which their characters, Danny and Sandy, indulged in a “juicy” kiss.

“They weren’t acting at that moment … it was real, it really was,” Didi insisted.

While the pair stayed in each other’s orbits for the next four decades – even re-teaming for 1983 rom-com Two of a Kind, which further sparked romance rumours – ultimately, Hild notes that John’s devotion to Scientology is what stopped anything from developing between them.

“More than 20 years after Grease was filmed, a musician who had been married to a Scientologist joined Olivia’s band and became friends with her,” he wrote. “He says that Olivia and Travolta ‘were very, very close. Almost that close.’”

He recalled a conversation the pair had, in which the Australian star asked her bandmate if she would be expected to become a Scientologist if she were to marry the actor.

Though he insisted it “would not have been mandatory”, he said it “would have been encouraged, put it that way”. Olivia simply replied, “Thank you. That’s all I want to know.”

In 2018, Olivia said on the No Filter podcast she felt the pair not giving in to their real-life attraction only added to their on-screen chemistry.

“I think it was good, because I think it kept the tension there and the chemistry,” she said. “It might have been a real disaster had we decided to date or we had a falling out or something.”

She added that both were “with other people” during filming and “respectfully, it just didn’t happen”.

Upon her death in 2022, John shared a touching tribute to his “dearest Olivia” on Instagram. “I love you so much,” he wrote. “We will all be together again. Yours from the moment I saw you and forever! Your Danny, your John!”

 Down To Earth – itself a sequel to 1941 fantasy Here Comes Mr Jordan – while Gene Kelly, bizar­rely enough, reprises his char­ac­ter from 1944’s Cover Girl. 

 Crit­ics skewered it, but Xanadu’s songs escaped the worm­hole of box-office dis­aster. New­ton-john’s “Magic” was a US num­ber one, while the endur­ing banger of a title song, a col­lab­or­a­tion with ELO, topped the UK Top 40. The dream that came through a mil­lion years lived on through all the tears…

INTERVIEW Avant la sortie de ses mémoires Crazy Lucky, John Mason,avocat, partage de nouvelles informations sur certaines de ses affaires les plus célèbres, des Jackson 5 à Brian Wilson des Beach Boys.

« J’ai fait carrière en ne représentant que des talents », explique Mason, soulignant une proximité unique avec ses clients célèbres. « Je ne cherche pas à représenter des maisons de disques qui profitent des artistes. »

La cliente la plus fidèle de Mason a été Olivia Newton-John. Ils ont travaillé ensemble pendant près de 50 ans. Mason a même donné son nom à sa fille. « J’ai encore la gorge serrée et je pleure à cause de sa perte », dit-il, faisant référence à la mort de Newton-John d’un cancer en 2022. « La dernière fois que nous sommes allés la voir, elle pouvait à peine marcher. Mais elle est sortie avec son déambulateur et s’est fait servir du thé. Nous nous sommes assis près de sa piscine et elle a commencé à plaisanter et à rire. Elle était tellement incroyable qu’elle a pu sortir du lit et passer un après-midi avec nous deux mois avant la fin.

Son travail avec Newton-John a également donné lieu aux victoires juridiques dont Mason est le plus fier. Ceux-ci lui ont valu la propriété des enregistrements originaux de ses succès. « À l’époque, aucun artiste n’avait possédé de master, pas même Elvis Presley », explique Mason. « Mais la propriété des masters était un concept qui, selon moi, avait fait son temps. Cela signifie qu’il était temps pour les artistes de s’approprier leurs enregistrements.

La raison déchirante pour laquelle John Travolta et Stockard Channing ont manqué la dernière réunion de Grease.

John Travolta et Stockard Channing semblent être visiblement absents d’un nouveau projet de réunion du casting de Grease - au grand désarroi des fans du monde entier.

Alors que la plupart des Pink Ladies et des T-Birds survivants du film ont sauté à bord pour participer au prochain documentaire sur le making-of Life After Grease, John, 71 ans, et Stockard, 81 ans, ne figurent pas dans le teaser, ni ne sont inclus dans la liste des sujets interviewés. 

"John ne peut tout simplement pas se résoudre à y retourner sans Sandy à ses côtés. Il n’a même pas « snobé » le projet, mais il l’a refusé assez rapidement. "Stockard et John ont apparemment parlé au téléphone de faire ce projet et ont convenu qu’ils avaient tous les deux été interrogés des milliers de fois sur tous les aspects de leur expérience Grease ; Il est grand temps de laisser les autres membres de la distribution s’amuser".

Nostalgia has a poignant way of folding in upon itself. That’s what’s happened with Summer Dreams, the 2013 duet between Canadian guitar icon Boyd and Australian pop superstar Newton-John. When it was first released, the song was a simple, heartfelt ode to weekend vacations past. Now that it’s been rereleased in a remixed and updated production, the record has taken on the extra dimension of a moving tribute to a friendship not even death could dim.

“Back in 2013, I asked my dear girlfriend of many years, the late Olivia Newton-John, to be my guest on a song for an album I was releasing that year,” Boyd says. “She happily agreed, and I flew down with my producer, Peter Bond, to record her near her home in Jupiter, Florida. It was a great experience. In 2013, she was absolutely at the top of her game vocally, and the entire session lasted little more than an hour. At the end, Olivia did some improvising that was so beautiful it gave us both goosebumps.”

Olivia Newton-John’s widower John Easterling has made the difficult decision to sell the $13.6 million California ranch where the singer spent her final days.

“It’s devastating for everyone, but this is a money issue,” shares an ONJ insider about the movie producer, 72. “The maintenance on the estate and the annual tax bill is crazy.”

According to the source, the news is “absolutely heartbreaking” for Olivia’s daughter Chloe, 38. “She has so many memories shared with her mum on that ranch. The horses, all named by Olivia, ridden by her, the house, the garden, it’s going to be incredibly difficult for Chloe to let this property go.”

But, says the source, “Sadly they have no choice. To keep that ranch would have financially impacted all the good work being done by Olivia’s charities and foundations. They made a promise to her they’d keep saving lives.

“She wanted her legacy to be about her philanthropic work, and she wanted it to continue after she had gone. There will be a few tears shed when this place sells, but it’s what Olivia would have wanted.”

Olivia Newton-john’s cherished Southern California ranch has been put up for auction by her husband, John Easterling, less than two years after her death. 

The late singer chose to spend her final days at the stunning property before she passed away aged 73 in August 2022. It has now been listed by John, 72, for approximately S14 million.

Although John didn’t explain his motivation for selling the property, he did tell People magazine that it was a place that held “many wonderful memories”.

Insiders say the sale will “come as a blow” to Olivia’s only child, daughter Chloe Lattanzi. Chloe, 38, has said the ranch is a “tangible place” where she can still “feel my mother”.

“I can walk on the soil and be like, ‘her foot was here’,” Chloe told Stellar magazine’s Something to Talk About podcast in August 2023.

“I can sit on her favourite seat and know that she sat there a thousand times and just visualise sitting on her lap. She’s still alive there for me.”

L’icône de la musique australienne Olivia est décédée à l’âge de 73 ans au domicile de Santa Ynez le 8 août 2022, après une bataille de 20 ans contre le cancer du sein.

Le déménagement serait « déchirant » pour toute la famille, mais ils ont pris la décision difficile en raison des coûts élevés d’entretien du domaine de 12 acres.

« Le message qui revient si clairement est d’aimer la vie, de vivre la vie et de ne jamais oublier les bonnes choses qui se passent. »

« Le ranch 'Indian Way' à Santa Ynez est une propriété spectaculaire où je peux voir une nouvelle famille vivre de grandes aventures dans la nature et savourer l’expérience de la vie », a-t-il poursuivi.

L’annonce de la maison ajoute : « Ce domaine privé de 12+ / acre est construit au plus haut niveau de qualité et de sophistication, situé sur l’une des rares parcelles donnant sur la rivière Santa Ynez.

Olivia avait l'intention de vendre son ranch bien-aimé pour 5,4 millions de dollars américains (7,7 millions de dollars australiens) en 2019, mais la propriété a été retirée du marché car elle aurait décidé de passer ses derniers jours dans la maison. 

La maison de quatre chambres et cinq salles de bains a été achetée par Olivia en 2015 pour 4,69 millions de dollars américains (6,7 millions de dollars australiens)
