The success of Olivia Newton-John is reflected in the fact that seemingly everyone knows her songs, especially the ones she sang as Sandy in "Grease," plus the massive early 1980s hit, "Physical."
A long list of music awards and more than 100 million albums sold simply cement Newton-John's status as a timeless superstar.
Since April, the Australian singer has been performing "Summer Nights" in concert residency at the Flamingo Las Vegas — an engagement that's been extended to January 2015.
Featuring an eight-piece band, the production is a whirlwind of Newton-John's greatest hits and fan favorites. On Saturday, Reno audiences will have a chance to see "Summer Nights" close to home, when Newton-John takes the stage at the Silver Legacy Resort Casino.
"The show is a journey through my different styles, not in any particular order," said Newton-John, during a phone interview with Best Bets. "You'll hear my country music, 'Physical,' all the other songs I've done, and I do a nightclub set from the '60s."
The Reno stop on Oct. 25 is one of a small number of tour dates for Newton-John, who is typically busy performing her Las Vegas show five nights a week.
"I'm doing as little touring as possible because I'm in Vegas," she said. "What's wonderful about that is the people come to you — you don't have to travel to them."
For fans of Newton-John and also those folks who love the movie "Grease," the Reno show is a rare opportunity to see this star perform live outside of Las Vegas.
With a career that spans more than five decades, Newton-John has plenty of hits to pull from for the performance of "Summer Nights."
