Music and film star Olivia Newton John died in August. The Australian singer sold more than 100 million record albums during her career. From 1973 to 1983, she was among the world’s most popular entertainers. She had 14 top 10 singles in the United States alone and won four Grammy awards.
But Newton-John might be most remembered for her performance in 1978’s popular musical movie Grease. She starred as Sandy, a new student at an American high school. There, she reconnects with her summer boyfriend.
Newton-John died of cancer at her home in California. She was 73.

BATTLE-WEARY Olivia Newton John is spoiling herself rotten — and it’s working wonders! The actress and three-time cancer survivor is tired of the toll her health woes have taken on her body and is showering herself with baubles and spa treatments to lift her spirits, sources snitched!
“She’s been through so much and this last bout of cancer took the wind out of her, but she’s doing better and feeling more positive, thanks to a few splurges,” dished an insider.
“She’s getting everything from pricey skin procedures — nothing invasive and all meticulously planned — to dropping big money on a new wardrobe, jewelry and expensive haircuts and highlights.
“Treating herself has helped Olivia look and feel her best.
Her family is saying it’s about time she did something for herself!” The 72-year-old “Grease” goddess also credits cannabis and medicinal herbs for getting her through her latest ravaging round of treatments.
Brave Olivia was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992. Since then, she has had two recurrences.
“Olivia looks great, she feels great and no one would know she has ever been ill,” spilled a source. “She encourages others to do what she’s doing — treat yourself to the nice things in life!”

B.C. parents want their daughters to be Olivia and their boys to be Liam
The Daily Courier
5 Jan 2021
By Daily Courier Staff
Oliver and Liam have switched spots at the top of the most popular names for baby boys in B.C.
But Olivia is once again the most popular name for newborn girls.
The name has topped the list in eight of the past nine years.
Just under 40,000 babies were born across B.C. from Jan.1 to Dec. 17, 2020, according to the provincial Vital Statistics Agency.
During that period, the most popular baby names for boys: Liam, Oliver, Noah, Lucas, Theodore, Benjamin and Ethan.
Most popular girls’ names: Olivia, Emma and Charlotte.
There are not an equal number of boys’ and girls’ names on a press release sent out New Year’s Eve by Vital Statistics because the list only indicates the 10 most popular names, regardless of gender.
Although a roughly equal number of boys and girls are born each year, the popularity of Olivia is such that it dominates the girls’ list in a way that no names do on the boys’ list.
In 2019, 263 baby Olivias were born in B.C., almost 90 more than baby Charlottes.
By contrast, last year there were 233 baby Olivers, compared to 217 babies who were named Liam and 216 who were named Lucas.
The first baby born in 2021 in the region served by Interior Health was a girl who was delivered at 1:22 a.m. on New Year’s Day at Kelowna General Hospital. Her parents are Ashley and Tyler Robinson.

En Okanagan ( Canada ) , le prénom Olivia est encore une fois le plus populaire pour les filles nouveau-nées. Le prénom est en tête de liste depuis les huit / neuf dernières années.
Olivia Newton-John on her cancer diagnosis, cannabis and selling that iconic Grease outfit
Over 200 items from Olivia Newton John's closet will be up for auction in November
Up until about 15 years ago, Olivia Newton-John was still touring in her iconic, black , skin-tight pants and leather jacket from Grease.
"My publicist said, 'I can't believe you got this out on the road with you. I think you should preserve them,'" the actress and singer told As It Happens guest host Rosemary Barton.
"And I hadn't really thought about it. I didn't believe that Grease would still be coveted after 40 years. I mean, it was just unbelievable."
Newton-John, 70, is putting her outfit from the 1978 movie musical, along with 200 other items from her long career and personal life, under the hammer at Julien's Auctions in Los Angeles in November, with proceeds going to the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness & Research Centre
"It has a purpose and people are going to enjoy it," Newton-John said. "I'll have a wonderful photo and it won't be sitting in a closet. So it all makes sense to me." ...
“I don’t call it remission — I just say I’m living with it. I’m living with it very well. To think that you could get rid of every single cell is not really a reality at this point ... Things are shrinking. I’m taking a lot of herbs because my husband worked in the Amazon and he’s incredibly knowledgable.” — Olivia Newton-John reveals she’s “living very well” with cancer.
DON’T STOP BELIEVIN’: OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN ON AGING GRACEFULLY
Toronto Star
8 Jun 2019
Mediaplanet: With over five decades of entertainment success, what does “Don’t Stop Believin’” mean to you?
Olivia Newton-John: “Don’t Stop Believin’” is a special song written by my long-time producer, songwriter, and friend John Farrar. The song means so much to me on many levels — professionally and personally. The message of the song is simply to not stop believing, even on your worst days. It’s the reason why I chose it as the title for my new memoir.
As you're best known for your strength, courage, and grace, what do you think is the key to healthy aging?
I think the key to healthy aging is just using common sense. Eat healthy foods, exercise, do something you enjoy doing every day, and laugh — a lot! I laugh as often as I can — and often at myself! I find humour in most situations because a sense of humour about life and myself is so integral to my healing.
Amidst your busy daily life, how do you stay positive?
I stay positive because we really only have two choices — being positive or negative. I choose to be positive because I feel if you put out positive energy, it will return to you ten-fold! I stay positive because I'm lucky enough to have a wonderful husband, family, animals, and friends. Those are really the important things to help keep you happy and healthy!
Can you tell us about your experience with cancer? Has it changed your outlook on life?
I know it will sound strange, but my diagnosis in 1992 was a gift. Had I not been diagnosed, I may never have set out to help create the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Centre (ONJCWRC) in my hometown of Melbourne, Australia. It’s a beautiful place with traditional treatments, a dedicated wellness centre, and a research centre all under one roof. I’ve always been a very positive person so that’s how I choose to look at things.
Cancer doesn’t define you, it’s only a part of who you are, but my outlook on life has changed — even more especially this time, with my third diagnosis. I do something I enjoy every day and I don’t sweat the small stuff, and I try to always live in the moment. Every day is a gift!
What gives you the motivation to be such a strong figure for so many women who have breast cancer?
I didn’t plan on it. Having had cancer now three times, I’ve had many years to adjust to it and talk about it. Having helped create and build the ONJCWRC has been a passion of mine for the last 15 years and being open about my cancer journey has helped other women on theirs, I believe. That makes me feel good — and it’s encouraging for them that I’m still here! It’s encouraging for me too!
Learning from your own experience, what do you think was the most important lesson? Is there one message you’d like people to know?
I’ve learned so many lessons, but I think my main one is gratitude — for every day. For every sunrise and sunset. The appreciation of life in all its beauty — it’s all a gift.
