Liona Boyd Shares Canadian Summer Dreams With Olivia Newton-John
Liona Boyd and Olivia Newton-John head back to the cottage in the new version of their summery single and video Summer Dreams — showcasing today on Tinnitist.
Nostalgia has a poignant way of folding in upon itself. That’s what’s happened with Summer Dreams, the 2013 duet between Canadian guitar icon Boyd and Australian pop superstar Newton-John. When it was first released, the song was a simple, heartfelt ode to weekend vacations past. Now that it’s been rereleased in a remixed and updated production, the record has taken on the extra dimension of a moving tribute to a friendship not even death could dim.
“Back in 2013, I asked my dear girlfriend of many years, the late Olivia Newton-John, to be my guest on a song for an album I was releasing that year,” Boyd says. “She happily agreed, and I flew down with my producer, Peter Bond, to record her near her home in Jupiter, Florida. It was a great experience. In 2013, she was absolutely at the top of her game vocally, and the entire session lasted little more than an hour. At the end, Olivia did some improvising that was so beautiful it gave us both goosebumps.”

Delta Goodrem’s new single is a bit racy.
Latest single is thawing the perception of her as the teen who sang Born to Try and Innocent Eyes.
The racy lyrics and sexy imagery on Think About You are her most mature to date.
“I totally understand some people going ‘Did Delta just sing I think about you naked when I’m looking at you’,” Goodrem said laughing.
“Australians know I am an adult, I’ve grown up, I run my own business.
“Some people needed me to grow slowly and I was always conscious of the family being a part of the shows. “But I’m also a woman with so many sides to me I haven’t shared yet. I’m thankful I am able to talk about numerous topics now. It’s OK, I can say the word ‘naked’ in a song.”
Think About You has already clocked up one million streams on Spotify and Goodrem is set to film the video next week.
The 33-year-old is staying silent on who the song may be about (“I’m never going to share that, some things you have to keep to yourself”).
Despite recent photographs she says she is single and politely declines to discuss her dating life, saying “If I have something to share I’ll let people know”.
Goodrem is finishing the soundtrack to her Seven Olivia Newton-John mini-series Hopelessly Devoted to You, which is being pitched at an international release. The album will feature a duet between Goodrem and Newton-John on Let Me Be There and Love is a Gift.
“She was saying ‘Should I do the second verse?’ and I said ‘Olivia, you can sing whatever you want, wherever you want at any moment on the record’,” she reveals.

Grace à Liona Boyd, guitariste classique de renom, on sait qu'ONJ sera (re)diffusé dans l'émission Dr OZ ! .. Elles ont déjeuner ensembles dimanche dernier .. mais du coup elle ne nous dit pas ce qu'elles ont mangé ! Au vu de la photo .. c'était pas un "barboc" !
Christmas isn‘t the happiest time of the year for many people and as much as
Olivia likes Christmas many of her fans don‘t call the holiday season a favorite.
But the Lady graced us with lots of Christmas Music over the years. Facing the upcoming re-release of „Friends for Christmas“ with aussie buddy John Farnham it came to my mind that it‘s already the 10th Anniversary of „Christmas Wish“ (2007) this year. If I had to pick a Christmas record by Olivia I‘d chose this one, because it‘s unique !
Apart from the critics who slaughtered her collaboration with John Travolta (This Christmas, 2012) as cheesy and commenting on „Friends for Christmas“ (2016) having no personality (which is probably true, but the Jazz-feel of the recordings are undeniably smashing!!) her collaboration on „Christmas Wish“ with Amy Sky as a producer and musician was a great choice and delivered flawless classics and new songs in the manner of „Grace & Gratitude“ (2006) with a sometimes celtic touch.
„Christmas Wish“ was available from November 1rst in 2007, but Olivia sold around 300 signed copies by pre-order through her own website back then. I was lucky enough to get one of those! Referring to her Television Interviews in Winter 2007 most of her duet partners weren‘t with her in the Studio, apart from Jon Secada and Jann Arden. That isn‘t unusal for duet recordings and actually most of Olivia‘s duets are produced so classy that you won‘t guess the other part hadn‘t been in the studio at the same time (the big exception is e.g. „I‘ll be home for Christmas“ with B. Streisand on „This Christmas“. The sound proves it all…).
Barry Manilow, who duetted with Olivia on „This can‘t be real“ in 2004 contributes a track here called „A gift of love“, which is lovely. Their voices blend very well, even if Barry‘s solo version on „A Christmas gift of love“ (2002) was already nice enough. Seems they‘ve used the same 2002 vocals of his for the duet version.
A very touching ballad called „Little star of Bethlehem“ had it‘s origin in 2006, as an instrumental piano track by Stephan Moccio called „Porcelain“. It is featured on his eponymous CD „Exposure“ (2006). Moccio himself appeared already on Olivia‘s „Grace & Gratitude“ CD and plays frequently some piano/keyboard parts on „Christmas Wish“ as well.
Another name we find on „CW“ is Mark Masri who would later appear on Olivia‘s remake of „Grace & Gratitude“ (2006) called „Grace & Gratitude renewed“ ("To be wanted“, 2010). He also asked Olivia to use her vocal part of „Every time it snows“ (originally recorded for CW with Jon Secada) for his own Christmas debut CD called „Christmas Is“ in 2008. For „CW“ Mark provides backing vocals on „Underneath the same sky“ and „Christmas on my radio“.
Just a year after „Grace & Gratitude“ there‘s a new, slightly over-produced version of „Instrument of peace“ included on „CW“. Still a great song with a holiday feel to it. I always thought that Marc Jordan (Amy Sky‘s husband) did an extraordinary Job on the harmony vocals for this song! He also sang on „We three Kings“, just for the record. And even Marc‘s and Amy‘s daughter Zoe Jordan did choir vocals on „Oh come all ye faithful“.
The track „A Mother‘s Christmas Wish“ was written by Olivia with Chloe in mind. Olivia performed this on a TV Show called „Frosted Pink“ in 2007 to promote the album. Jim Brickman, who played piano on the track included the song on his „Homecoming“ Christmas CD in 2007.
Amy Sky, again, re-recorded the song with Olivia‘s 2007 vocals for her own Holiday CD called „The Lights of December“ in 2008. 2008 also saw the Target re-release of „Christmas Wish“ with a great bonus track „In the bleak midwinter“.
Although „CW“ charted only at # 187 on the Billboard 200 the album became a Christmas standard, seemingly because of it‘s uniqueness. On the Billboard Independant charts it even made an impressive position # 21.
Looking back to the year 2007 Olivia did a lot of TV promotion for „Christmas Wish“ and did perform a lot of tracks live on television, which never happenend again with her follow-up Christmas records.
Look out for her performance of „Instrument of peace“ with Jon Secada , „A Mother‘s Christmas Wish“ and „Christmas on my Radio“

Le dernier album de Liona Boyd est arrivé Fnac Forum au rayon classique depuis mardi ... et bien sur je n'ai pu résister .... entendre les vocalises d'Olivia Newton-John sur la 4ème plage ... pendant 5 minutes et 57 secondes d'une chanson intitulée Canadian Summer Dreams. C'est sur Liona Boyd ne fait pas du Rock'N'Roll .... l'album dans son ensemble est relativement plaisant .... un beau projet bien produit ....qui vous repose les neurones et vous fait voyager le temps d'une soirée .... Un peu monotone ...quand même ... mais bon, ça n'est pas ce que j'ai l'habitude d'écouter !
Liona Boyd vient de "lacher" sur Soundcloud sa version Radio Edit du titre "Canadian Summer Dreams" featuring Olivia Newton-John. On peut la remercier de ne pas nous avoir fait languir plus longtemps !
Olivia Newton-John avait invité Liona et Peter Bond, le producteur de ce projet, à Jupiter en Floride. Elle leur avait fait un thé puis les a conduit au studio d'enregistrement ou elle a rajouter les belles harmonies vocales que l'on peut entendre sur le morceau ci-dessus. C'est une chanson qui de suite a séduit notre jolie blonde. En restera t-elle à ce projet ? L'album de Liona Boyd est disponible en import le 17 septembre.
C'est le 17 septembre que l'on pourra enfin entendre la collaboration d'Olivia Newton-John avec la première dame canadienne de la guitare Liona Boyd. L'album intutilé "The Return ... To Canada With Love" sera disponible sur Itunes et amazon.ca. Le titre partagé avec Olivia s'intitule "Canadian Summer Dreams". Vous pouvez entendre un mix de ses compositions sur soundcloud. Le morceau avec Olivia s'écoute vers les 5 minutes 30 ... tout en douceur ... pour déstresser après une journée épuisante ... c'est cool !
Le seul vrai projet musical d'Olivia Newton-John pour cette année pourrait être sans doute sa collaboration avec la "première dame de la guitare" Liona Boyd. (J'aimerais être tellement contredit !) Liona Boyd a quitté les Etats-Unis pour vivre à Toronto. En Septembre 2013, elle sortira un nouveau CD intitulé «The Return ... To Canada With Love ». Cet album, son "meilleur" album, selon bon nombre de ceux qui ont entendu les travaux en cours, est un projet ambitieux, unique et puissant dédié au Canada avec quelques invités prestigieux : Olivia Newton-John, Dan Hill, Jann Arden, Randy Bachman , Serena Ryder, Chris Hadfield, Maria Aragon, Daniel Lavoie, John McDermott, Eleanor McCain, Mark Masri, Divine Brown et bien d'autres. Son style original a été décrit comme si Enya rencontrait Leonard Cohen ! Ci-dessous un aperçu du style de la dame ..
Olivia sera sans aucun doute affairée cette fin d'année à récolter des dons pour mettre en chantier les différents programmes nécessaire à la bonne marche du Olivia Newton-John Cancer & Wellness Centre. Vos dons seront les bienvenus .... quelque soit la somme ! La Wellness Walk du 15 septembre en Australie marquera le début des festivités ... Olivia regorge d'idées surprenantes !
On espère vivement un nouvel opus de la dame ..... mais noël arrive tellement vite et puis si on se réfère aux dires de John Travolta, l'année dernière ... John et Olivia devraient refaire vivre l'album This Christmas ..... à travers de nouveaux projets ...
Olivia Newton-John a profité de la présence dans la salle, lors de son concert au Casino rama, de la guitariste et chanteuse Liona Boyd pour annoncer qu'elles avaient enregistré un duo.
Sur sonsite officiel, Liona Boyd, surnommée au Canada la Première Dame de la Guitare, écrit en effet, ceci : "en Juin j'ai pris l'avion pour la Floride pour rester quelques jours dans ma maison de Palm Beach et j'ai également enregistré avec ma chère amie Olivia Newton-John qui a accepté de chanter avec moi sur une de mes nouvelles chansons. Ha, ha,nos deux voix sonnent de manière exceptionnelle!"

La canadienne de 63 ans, a enregistré plus d'une vingtaine de disques depuis le début des années 70, et a reçu plusieurs fois la distinction de "meilleure artiste de l'année" aux JUNO, équivalent canadien des victoires de la musique française. En 2003, elle est victime de la maladie de la dystonie de fonction. Il s’agit d’un trouble moteur qui s’exprime par une contraction involontaire de groupes musculaires. Le plus souvent, ce sont les muscles des doigts et de la main qui sont touchés. Elle quitte alors la scène pendant 6 ans, réinvente sa façon de jouer et décide de se mettre à chanter.
Le titre ci-dessus est tiré de son album paru en 2009, "Liona Boyd Sings Songs of Love".
Le duo dont on ne connait pas le titre sortira en mars 2013 sur le nouvel album de Liona “The Return… to Canada with Love”, produit par Peter Bond. ce duo sera en tout cas surement très loin de l'atmosphére de l'album dance/pop de notre "diva" préférée et qui devrait sortir en 2013. On devrait être ici plus près de l'ambiance Grace & Gratitude, entre folk et new age. Mais c'est aussi pour cette versatilité qu'on aime Olivia !
