ON Aug. 8, as news spread that beloved star Olivia Newton-John had died of cancer at the age of 73, celebrity tributes began pouring in from the likes of Barbra Streisand, Elton John and Nicole Kidman and husband Keith Urban. “I am heartbroken,” singing legend Frankie Valli wrote in a social media post. But perhaps the most touching message came from John Travolta, who played Danny Zuko to her Sandy Olsson in the 1978 hit Grease. “My dearest Olivia, you made all of our lives so much better,” the 68-year-old wrote on Instagram alongside a throwback photo of his friend of 45 years. “I love you so much. We will see you down the road and we will all be together again. Yours from the first moment I saw you and forever! Your Danny, your John!”

Onscreen and off, the pair were hopelessly devoted to each other. “We text each other all the time,” the Pulp Fiction star has said, adding, “We love each other, and when you love someone you stay in touch.” Throughout the years, the friends did more than that, helping each other through the heartbreak of divorce and the pain of losing loved ones. And John, an insider tells Star, was there for the Australian beauty as she battled breast cancer, first diagnosed in 1992, when it recurred in 2013 and again in 2017. “John was one of the last people Olivia talked to before she died.”

Their bond was instant. “John and Olivia clicked immediately, and their chemistry in Grease blew everyone away,” says the source. Their onscreen romance was so believable, rumors of a real-life hookup ran rampant. The film’s director, Randal Kleiser, and costar Didi Conn later fed the rumors by implying John had a crush on Olivia. (“They weren’t acting in that moment,” Randal has said of the film’s big kiss. “It was like he had his chance and he was going to take it.”) But John and Olivia maintained they never crossed the line. “We were both with other people when we were filming,” Olivia said in 2018. “I think, respectfully, it just didn’t happen. It might have been a real disaster had we decided to date, or we had a falling out or something.”

ANGELIC Olivia Newton-John went to her grave secretly carrying a torch for her Grease co-star and soulmate John Travolta — and the smitten Saturday Night Fever stud loved her right back, sources dish.

The Hopelessly Devoted to You songbird died at 73 on Aug. 8 after a heroic decadeslong battle with breast cancer, leaving her close pal John, 68, heartbroken.

Tipsters tell GLOBE the Grease screen sweethearts had the same passion for each other in real life — but the timing was never right.

When the pair stepped into their roles as greaser Danny Zuko and goody two-shoes Sandy Olsson in the 1978 movie musical, John was still reeling from the loss of his love Diana Hyland — who’d died in his arms from breast cancer just three months earlier.

Insiders say Olivia helped John navigate his grief, and he returned the favor when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992 and again in 2013 — and after she received a devastating stage 4 death sentence in 2017!

According to spies, the hunk was also there for Olivia when her 11-year marriage to Xanadu dancer Matt Lattanzi collapsed in 1995. But by that time, he’d already

tied the knot with Jerry

ton. However, their 28-year love story abruptly ended with Kelly’s breast cancer death at 57 in 2020. Olivia and John’s

“combined tragedies continued to make them as close as two people could be — without becoming lovers!” a source dishes.

Pals confide after Kelly passed away the Aussie legend offered her support — but by that point she was happily married to John Easterling.

“Fate cruelly kept them apart,” an insider notes.

After her death, John wrote to his “dearest Olivia” on social media: “I love you so much. We will see you down the road, and we will all be together again. Yours from the moment I saw you and forever! Your Danny, your John!”

STAR Olivia Newton-john beams as she returns to the red carpet in LA and gets a big hug from actress pal Jane Seymour.
The Grease legend, 70, was stepping out for the first time since opening up about her third battle with breast cancer.
She recently revealed the disease is stage four – meaning that her chances of recovery are very slim.
But she looked happy and glamorous as she collected a lifetime achievement gong at the Industry Dance Awards and Cancer Benefit Show at the Avalon Hollywood club.
And she said: “I just want everyone to know, I’m here, I’m doing great. I’m doing really well and I’m really healthy.

“It was a challenging year because I broke my sacrum and I had to learn to walk again and everything. “But I am strong and I am back and I’m feeling good and loving every minute.”

Olivia, who has daughter Chloe Lattanzi, 33, won her first fight with cancer in 1992.
She revealed her latest blow in November – five years after her second ordeal.
Olivia said she had decided it was better for her mental health if her doctors did not tell her how long she had left. Earlier this month, she said: “When you’re given a cancer diagnosis, you are suddenly given a possibility of a time limit.

“If you believe the statistics, you’re going to make them happen. If somebody tells you, ‘You have six months to live’, very possibly you will, because you believe that.”

‘I’m doing really well. I’m thriving,’ says Olivia

GREASE icon Olivia Newton-John and her daughter, Chloe Lattanzi, broke down when talking about the brave star’s “incurable” stage IV breast cancer that’s roared back for a third time!

The 70-year-old You’re the One That I Want songbird thought she was in the clear after battling the savage disease in 1992 and again in 2013. However, a tumor was discovered in her lower spine in 2017.

Choking back tears, Chloe, 33, the singer’s daughter with first hubby, actor Matt Lattanzi, revealed she was “angry” and “in denial” when she learned about the disease’s return.

She says they avoid talking about it to avoid making it a “bigger” deal in their relationship.

“If she’s having a day where she needs to talk about it, I’m there to listen,” says Chloe. “I’ll never bring it up unless she wants to.”

Docs haven’t forecasted how long her mom has to live and Chloe says: “For me, it’s better not to have any ideas of what they expect.”

But Prof. Jonathan Cebon, who works with the singer’s Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research Institute in Melbourne, Australia, grimly notes the cancer is “in her bones” and “not curable.”

She currently uses marijuana grown in the backyard of the Santa Barbara home she shares with hubby John Easterling to help with pain.

“I’m doing really well,” insists the courageous actress, who is an inspiration to other cancer patients. “I’m thriving.”
