LET'S GET ...
Now That’s What I Call Music sort une nouvelle compilation intitulée NOW The 80s: USA.
SUDDENLY by Olivia Newton-john and Cliff Richard is one of those summer songs that inevitably makes the charts due to its theme of fluttering love. Singers Ed Robinson and Joanna Marie tried to recapture the magic of that 1980 ballad with their reggae version. Co-produced by them, it was released on November 5 by their company, Reggae Global Entertainment.
This is their first duet together, even though they have been a couple for the last three years. According to Joanna Marie, artistes being romantically involved does not ensure they will click on a song.
“Not necessarily. We have a great interpretation of how we want the song to be delivered and we have been co-producers for the past three years now,” she said.
The South Florida-based singer added that she and Robinson are fans of Xanadu, the 1980 movie that starred Newton-john, and the soundtrack featured Suddenly, a big hit 41 years ago in the United States and United Kingdom.
Suddenly is the follow-up to Joanna Marie’s I Just Want to be Your Everything, originally done by Andy Gibb. It was also co-produced by Robinson, best known for his 1991 reggae take on Bob Dylan’s Knocking on Heaven’s Door.
He and Joanna Marie have co-produced several acts based in South Florida, including Empress Uneek and Suzanne Sultry, as well as Dave Ravels, a former member of soul legends, The Drifters.
They are also principals of Reggae Global Radio, an Internet station.
“If you have any preconceived ideas about the ’80s or me,” teased Olivia, 33, at the beginning of her fourth TV special, “you had better hold onto your hats.” Not to mention your libidos. Without guest stars, she cavorted through provocative minimusicals based mostly on songs from her latest LP, Physical. “I just wasn’t in the mood for tender ballads,” says the lissome 5’6″, 110-pound soprano. “I wanted peppy stuff because that’s how I’m feeling.” The album and TV special are the steamiest of her phenomenal career, and Newton-John revels in the chance to stretch her wholesome image. “Like everyone, I’ve got different sides of my personality,” she muses. “I’ve my dominant self, my need-to-be-dominated self, the sane Olivia and the crazy Olivia. Playing these different characters [on the special] gave me a chance to show strange parts people haven’t seen much.” ....

Once we reach adulthood, it's easy to dismiss childhood musical obsessions as frivolous rather than formative. That enthusiasm can be seen as embarrassing, or some form of misguided, or infantile, admiration. It's far more challenging to take the uncynical view and honor the passion behind the musical fixations of our youth.
For Juliana Hatfield, one of those enduring artists is Olivia Newton-John, the musician and actress whose supple, golden voice made her a country and pop megastar. The Boston-based musician's forthcoming album, Juliana Hatfield Sings Olivia Newton-John, is a heartfelt tribute, with an emphasis on Newton-John's '70s and '80s high points.
"I have never not loved Olivia Newton-John," Hatfield says in a press release announcing the album. "Her music has brought me so much pure joy throughout my life."
Accordingly, her take on "A Little More Love" — a song that originally appeared on Newton-John's Totally Hot, a 1978 LP released several months after Grease became a blockbuster — exudes reverence. The lush song retains foundational elements of the source material; a funky, echoing guitar riff punctuates the verses, while soapy keyboards froth underneath imploring choruses. Hatfield is also faithful to the song's undulating vocal melody, adopting a lean, even-keeled delivery on the verses, floating up in register to a breathy lilt.
"J'ai toujours aimé Olivia Newton-John", dit Hatfield.

ERIC : "This is an improved version of my previous video. I decided to also include Olivia Newton-John in the segment to show how she was able to truly make these songs her own. I also tightened the piece and added another one of her classic songs, 'I Honestly Love You' (featuring Hugh Jackman, Cher & many others). The other songs include 'Hopelessly Devoted to You', 'Xanadu', 'Physical'& ''Magic'. I was unable to find videos of Kylie Minogue & Sophie Ellis- Bextor. singing 'Physical' so I tried to find the best footage that matched their lip movements. I also added clips from the films "Grease' & 'Xanadu'. Other Artists include Sharleen Spiteri, Terri Nunn (Berlin) & Dave Navarro, Dannii Minogue, Goldfrapp, Girls Aloud, Sara Love, Julianne Hough, Fem Belling, Kristin Chenoweth & of course Olivia Newton-John."
La magistrale SHIRLEY BASSEY sur Hopelessly Devoted To You ..
Julia STONE ou Pauline CROZE sur You're The One That I Want

Olivia Newton-John was born in 1948 in Cambridge, England; her father was an Enigma Code scientist who became a university professor. The family moved to Melbourne when she was five.
Her singing voice and good looks made her a natural for Australian television, films and pop groups. Coming to Britain she toured the clubs, worked hard, had the Dylan hit and landed the Cliff Richard Show, appearing every week alongside her friend. She had a string of hits and took off to America.
But did she hold it together during Grease, the 1950s American high school-set film, in which she starred alongside John Travolta? “Yes, because I’d been around for a while. [She was 30 when she played Sandy Olsson, the girl-next-door who becomes a vamp.] And I had my friends and my animals. But the invasion of privacy was nothing like young people have to deal with today, with social media.”
Newton-John is also relaxed about the ageing process. “I had breast cancer in 1992 and every year since then I’ve considered a gift. I’m not 70 yet, but I’m not far off.” She pauses and chuckles. “You know, I spoke to the guy who worked in the grocery store the other day and asked how he was, and he said, ‘Living the dream’. And he was, and so am I. But apart from when my daughter [Chloe] was born I’m having the best time of my life right now.”
Her voice is upbeat. You believe her. But what about the those performers of a certain age who choose to grow old disgracefully? Would Newton-John do a Madonna and have Playboy pictures taken in her vest and pants?
“No, it has never crossed my mind,” she says, laughing. “But good on her if she can do it.” But then Newton-John has never sought headlines. “I try to keep away from them.”
What helps survive showbiz, she says, is having a good support system, and supporting others. She certainly kept in touch with Cliff Richard during the two year-police investigation which was later dropped.
“Yes, of course. Your friends are your friends and you have to keep in touch. I adore Cliff and he was so badly treated and I’m so happy it’s been resolved. He’s an incredible person and all his friends rallied around.”
Olivia Newton-John cares. (We’re long past the 10-minute ruling.) Does she worry about the state of American politics, given Donald Trump has now picked up the keys to the kingdom? “I don’t talk about politics,” she says, nicely but emphatically. “It’s a landmine I’ve always managed to steer clear of. The only time I’ve been involved is when Al Gore was standing and I loved his environmental policies and stance against global warming.”
