En marge de ses concerts à Las Vegas, Olivia Newton-John donnera 2 concerts au Capitol Theatre de Clearwater les 4 et 5 février 2015 !

Le 4 est une soirée un peu plus spéciale au profit du Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research Institute et du centre de Cancer américain Moffitt. La soiré a été baptisé "Magic Under The Stars" !! Tout un programme en compagnie de la muse Newton-John !

L'Australie rendait ce mardi un hommage ému aux deux otages tués par un déséquilibré islamiste la semaine dernière à Sydney à l'occasion de services funéraires célébrés sous le sceau de l'unité entre les communautés. 

Tori Johnson, 34 ans, et Katrina Dawson, 38 ans, ont été tués par balles dans la nuit du 15 au 16 décembre lors de l'assaut du Lindt café à Sydney où Man Haron Monis, un homme d'origine iranienne au passé violent, avait séquestré 17 employés et clients.
Il les avait contraints à déployer sur la vitrine du café un drapeau noir où était inscrit en caractères arabes la "shahada", ou profession de foi musulmane, un drapeau souvent repris à leur compte par des groupes jihadistes. Il avait récemment posté un message sur son site internet afin de prêter allégeance au "calife des musulmans", ce qui pourrait désigner le chef de l'organisation Etat islamique (EI) en Irak et en Syrie, Abou Bakr al-Baghdadi. 

Monis a trouvé la mort dans ce drame d'autant plus traumatisant pour les Australiens que, si des dizaines d'entre eux ont péri dans les attentats du 11 septembre 2001 et de Bali (Indonésie) en 2002 et 2005, ils ont été largement épargnés par le terrorisme sur leur sol.

Les obsèques de Tori Johnson, gérant du Lindt café, ont été célébrées dans l'intimité ce mardi matin en l'église St Stephens de Sydney, à quelques pas seulement du lieu de la prise d'otage. 
Son cercueil blanc était porté par des proches vêtus de noir. Johnson a été élevé au rang de héros dans la presse nationale pour être tombé sous les balles du forcené qu'il tentait de désarmer. 

Cette information n'a pas été confirmée par les enquêteurs. Le Premier ministre de l'Etat de Nouvelle-Galles du Sud, Mike Baird, et le chef de la police de l'Etat, Andrew Scipione, dont la famille se trouvait à l'intérieur du Lindt café quelques instants avant l'irruption du forcené, ont assisté à la cérémonie religieuse.

Olivia Newton-John vient de révéler sur sa page Facebook avoir un lien personnel avec Tori Johnson, tout en exprimant ses condoléances à toutes les personnes touchées. "J'ai été stupéfaite d'apprendre que le héros de cette terrible situation, Tori Johnson, était le neveu de nos chers amis qui m'ont fait savoir : Nous voulions juste que chacun sache quelle belle, bonne, douce et gentille personne, Tori était - Il était l'antithèse même de cet acte de violence. La perte est incommensurable - Mais grand est l'amour qu'il a laissé derrière lui.".

"C'était tellement choquant d'entendre cette histoire d'otage en Australie , pays si cher à mon coeur, et j'ai été si attristé d'apprendre la perte insensée de la vie de deux personnes innocentes".

"J'envoie tout mon amour et mes condoléances aux deux familles" a t-elle précisé.

Le message d'Olivia Newton-John a été publié mardi matin devant les services commémoratifs des deux familles ..

OLIVIA Newton-John has revealed a personal connection to Sydney siege victim Tori Johnson, while expressing her condolences to all of those affected.

“I was stunned to learn that the hero of this horrific situation, Tori Johnson, was the nephew of our dear friends,” Newton-John wrote on her official Facebook page.

“(They) told me: ‘We just want everyone to know what a beautiful, good, gentle, kind, soft-spoken person Tori was — the very antithesis of this act of violence. The loss is immeasurable but so is the love he left behind’,” Newton-John wrote.

The singing superstar said she was praying for love and peace.

“I send my love and condolences to both families,” she said.

“It was so shocking to hear of a hostage situation in my heart home Australia and then I was so saddened to hear of the senseless loss of life of two innocent people”.

Newton-John’s message was posted early on Tuesday morning (Australain time) ahead of the memorial services being held for both of the victims of the Lindt cafe siege.

Le 16 décembre 1983 Zack Melon et Debbie Wylder étaient missionnés malgré eux pour sauver la planète et les humains ... La mission fut un succès mais le film un désastre ..
On parle ici bien sur du film TWO OF A KIND qui réunissait John Travolta et Olivia Newton-John pour la deuxième fois ! La France attendra de contempler le naufrage du film rebaptisé Second Chance le 21 mars 1984 .. Et pourtant l'alchimie était au rendez vous .. mais le public les attendaient surement pour un autre film musical ...

The Evolution of Making A Good Thing Better 

Maybe it's a good motto to start the new year or leave the old one behind, who knows? 

I came to know the LP in 1983 when my Dad presented me the Album as a Birthday gift. I wasn't so much into Country Music at that time and preferred Olivia's up-tempo songs in the 80s. But I was impressed with "Don't cry for me Argentina" and "Ring of fire". These Songs I've known before having had a listen to Johnny Cash and Julie Covington's versions.

"Making a good thing better" wasn't an as big hit for Olivia as her former releases "Don't stop believin'" and "Come on over". The Album charted at position 60 in the UK and made a 34th place on the US charts back in 1977. The title track was written by Peter Wingfield, who even did record the song in 1976. It is included on his CD "Eighteen With a Bullet: The Island Recordings" from 2008, released on the Cherry Red label in the UK.



More interesting how the single of Olivia was marketed back in 1977. It was the year before Olivia's world-wide big break with GREASE. "Making a good thing better" made a slow impression on the US charts (the only charts it entered!) and stayed for 4 weeks at position 87.

In the early and mid-seventies it was still not a common thing to include picture sleeves to 7" records. Some countries did, but many left them out due to production finances.

MAGTB was released with "I think I'll say goodbye" as a b-side in the US, Japan and the UK. Only the japanese edition did feature a picture sleeve.
In Spain the Novola label put the 7" out as a limited promo with "Sad Songs" as flip-side and illustrated the record with the classic LP Cover sleeve. ("Sad Songs" tho made it to an A-side Single in Japan as well!)

Australia and the Philippines also released the song without a cover sleeve, but with much different b-sides. While in OZ we find "Compassionate Man" (from "Don't stop believin'") in the Philippines we got "Coolin' down" as a flip-side. Funny enough that the Aussies put the later song on the b-side of "Twist of fate" in 1983. "Compassionate Man" was even released as an A-side 7" in Japan, where Olivia's popularity was as solidified as it was in the US in 1976/1977.

But "Making a good thing better" also made it on 7" records as a b-side! (btw: in Germany the song wasn't released at all as a single). EMI Brazil decided to put "Slow Dancing" on the A-side and banned the title song to the flip-side. And in Chile it seemed "Don't cry for me Argentina" was the worth song to appear on the A-side. Both Countries again, released it without a picture sleeve.

The most rare and collectible 7" is the one from the Netherlands. It's graced with a lovely shot from Olivia's 1974 appearance on the "Eddie go round Show" and "Don't ask a friend" (Olivia's self-penned Song on MAGTB) was chosen for the b-side. (Again the later song was the b-side for "Don't cry for me Argentina" on the Philippines and as the flip-side for "Sad Songs" in Japan).

Although knowing my 7" collection will never be complete, because there are so many 7" Singles circling around the globe I still keep hunting for that dutch 7" of "Making a good thing better". The copy I saw was sold for "only" 910 $. well, even for a hard-core collector that's a tough price to cope with and I'd say "thanks, not no thanks!".

So we all can try making a good thing better, can we ?
