OLIVIA Newton-John spoke about her cancer battle at a conference in Melbourne yesterday, talking about the importance of patient input and mind and body wellness.
Having battled breast cancer three times, the beloved singer and actor, now cancer advocate, spoke about the work of the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Centre at the Austin Hospital after being admitted last year.
“I got to experience this myself last year when I had a recurrence — I've had a third bout of breast cancer — and I ended up in the hospital with my name on it, which is quite an amazing achievement.
“I think that it was a bit of a battle to have a wellness centre in a public hospital in the beginning … but it really has been so wonderful for the patients because not only can they go down to the wellness centre by themselves but with their family.
The now 70-year-old, who has been vocal in her support for medicinal cannabis, said the drug had played a vital role in her healing.
Ms Newton-John said the ultimate goal was to “win over” cancer.
“My dream has always been — on the hospital it says Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Centre and I want to take off the word cancer one day.
“That’s my dream. It’s gonna happen.”

Après avoir combattu le cancer du sein à trois reprises, la chanteuse et actrice bien-aimée, désormais partisane du cancer, a parlé du travail du centre de recherche et de bien-être au centre de cancer Olivia Newton-John dans l'enceinte de l'hôpital d'Austin après son admission l'année dernière.
«J'ai vécu cette expérience moi-même l'année dernière, lorsque j'ai eu une récidive - j'ai eu un troisième épisode de cancer du sein - et je me suis retrouvé à l'hôpital qui porte mon nom, ce qui est une réalisation plutôt incroyable.
«Je pense qu’au début, il était difficile de créer un centre de bien-être dans un hôpital public… mais c’est vraiment merveilleux pour les patients, car non seulement ils peuvent se rendre au centre de bien-être seuls, mais aussi avec leur famille. La jeune femme de 70 ans, qui a exprimé son soutien pour le cannabis médical, a déclaré que la drogue avait joué un rôle vital dans sa guérison.
Mme Newton-John a déclaré que l'objectif ultime était de «vaincre» le cancer.
«Mon rêve a toujours été: à l'hôpital, il est écrit dans "Centre de recherche sur le cancer et centre de recherche sur le cancer Olivia Newton-John" .. et je souhaite supprimer le mot cancer un jour.
"C'est mon rêve. Ça va arriver.
