LA LETTRE DE COLIN

I found this letter I wrote to the editor of FAB magazine in Oct 2003 when the issue previous talked of divas but didn't include Olivia. When I found it and read it I thought hey it’s still really relivant this many years later. And they did publish it back then !

Olivia Newton-John n'a jamais été prise au sérieux musicalement .. surtout aux USA ou elle revendiquait, et on ne la blâmera pas, son identité australienne ! Elle fait partie de la culture Made In Usa grâce à GREASE ... mais pour le reste c'est l'omerta ! Et c'est pire pour Helen Reddy autre artiste australienne qui fut une méga star aux USA au début des années 70 ... qui se souvient d-elle ?
ONJ reste une chanteuse des années 70/80 ... même si sa discographie à pris du volume depuis ces décennies ... mais son fond de cata tombe dans l'oublie et c'est sans doute lié à un conflit entre MCA/Universal et l'artiste !
En France sur Deezer on ne peut pas écouter les plus gros tubes d'ONJ .. à part GREASE .. et elle ne fait pas partie du re boom du 33t  ...à part GREASE !

Ce constat est frustrant ... mais le combat d'Olivia Newton-John est porté vers l'avenir et c'est la lutte contre le Cancer .. pas les anniversaires de ses vieux tubes .. et donc on ne sera pas près de voir une édition spéciale pour les 40 ans du TOTALLY HOT ni sur un autre chef d'oeuvre de son fond de catalogue .... à part GREASE .. sur lequel ..elle ne doit pas avoir un contrôle total  !
et GREASE est re édité en double 33t, aujourd'hui .. en France !

For decades, music was the vehicle Olivia Newton-John used to conquer the world. It allowed her to scale the pop charts, adorn movie screens and sell out arenas around the world. But in recent years, the multi-Grammy-winning vocalist searched for something different and deeper within the songs she sang. So, she enlisted a pair of established pals and sought a way to use music as a means of healing.

But to understand healing, you first had to understand loss. To that end, Newton-John was fully prepared.

“I lost my sister four years ago to a brain tumor,” she said. “It was very sudden and very shocking. Music has always been a way of healing. It was there for me when I went through breast cancer, which was another emotional time, and it was there when I wrote a song for my sister with my friend Amy Sky. I got such a strong response from friends and family. They asked if I had any more songs like that. That sparked an idea. ‘Why don’t we do an album, an uplifting album, but one dealing with those feelings we don’t always talk about.”

On retrouve dans ce troisième volet la famille recomposée de Gru, ex-vilain devenu gentil, père adoptif de trois fillettes, marié à Lucy une espionne. Virés tous les deux des services secrets, ils vont faire la connaissance de Dru, frère jumeau de Gru et affronter un vrai méchant, Balthazar Barth, gravement scotché dans les années 1980.

Le personnage est accompagné d'une trame sonore entraînante, tirée du répertoire des années 80. On peut y entendre notamment des succès comme « Physical » d'Olivia Newton-John, « 99 Luftballons » de Nena, « Bad » de Michael Jackson et « Into The Groove » de Madonna.
