City in the pink for Olivia

GEELONG’S City Hall and other CBD areas will turn pink on Sunday night in memory of singer, actor and philanthropist Olivia Newton-John.

Projection artist Matt Bonner will turn City Hall’s Gheringhap St facade pink to raise awareness about breast and gynaecological cancers.

The catenary lights at the corner of Malop and Moorabool Streets, and lights at Little Malop St, in central Geelong and on the waterfront will also turn pink.

Geelong Mayor Trent Sullivan said the council wanted to celebrate Newton-John and her vast achievements.

Newton-John, 73, died on August 8 last year after a long battle with cancer.

“Her compassion and drive to help those with cancer through both the Olivia Newton-John Foundation and Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Centre deeply resonated with our residents,” Mr Sullivan said.

Newton-John’s state memorial will be held at Hamer Hall in Melbourne on Sunday from 4pm.

TOUCHING TRIBUTE TO OLIVIA

A LITTLE-known Newton-John song about gratitude, in which she declared “thank you for life, thank you for everything”, will be a centrepiece in the state memorial for the beloved Aussie superstar.

Newton-John’s husband John Easterling and her daughter Chloe Lattanzi will attend the state memorial at Hamer Hall, Melbourne, on Sunday, alongside niece Tottie Goldsmith, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and singer Delta Goodrem, who will perform a medley of Newton-John’s hits.

Newton-John, 73, died from cancer last August.

Presenter and singer David Campbell will be master of ceremonies at the service, and his TV colleague Richard Wilkins will deliver a tribute on behalf of the entertainment industry.
