I’m growing pot to help save lives, says Olivia

OLIVIA Newton-John claims cannabis has saved her life and hopes Australians can treat it as a medicine, not a drug. 

Diagnosed with stage-4 cancer in 2017, Newton-John, 72, said she hasn’t had radiation in two years and only uses natural therapies. 

“I think I am living beyond what people expected and I will continue to do so,” Newton-John said. “I think it’s wrong when doctors say ‘You have this long to live’. How do they know? We don’t know. “I’ve met many women who are told they are not going to live much longer and they’re still here. “You must not believe that because it’s like pointing the bone. You tell someone they’re going to die and they believe it and they will. That’s wrong.” 

As a result, the singer has launched The Olivia Newton-John Foundation. “I want to expand what we’re doing in Melbourne to the rest of the world and try to find kinder treatments for cancer,” she said. 

Newton-John and husband John Easterling, a plant medicine specialist, grow cannabis in a greenhouse on their property in California. “It’s legal to grow it here,” she said. “I know Australia is a bit behind the rest of the world with cannabis, but I’m hoping eventually Australia will realise that cannabis is a medicine and it can help people. “You don’t die from cannabis, but people die every day from opiates. I want to do the research on this so we can help people learn more, and that’s why I set up the foundation. “I know a lot of people use cannabis as a medicine in Australia; they just can’t get it easily. “Why not make it easier for people to get, particularly those suffering with pain? Why not make their lives a bit easier?” 

The 72-year-old has spent the Melbourne lockdown at home, clearing out memorabilia, artwork and personal items for an online auction of more than 300 items.

Diagnostiquée d'un cancer de stade 4 en 2017, Olivia Newton-John, 72 ans, a déclaré qu'elle n'avait pas eu de radiothérapie depuis deux ans et n'utilisait que des thérapies naturelles. «Je pense que je vis au-delà de ce que les gens attendaient et je continuerai de le faire», a déclaré Newton-John. «Je pense que c’est mal quand les médecins disent:« Vous n'avez plus si longtemps à vivre ». Comment savent-ils? Nous ne savons pas. «J’ai rencontré de nombreuses femmes à qui on a dit qu’elles ne vivraient pas longtemps et elles sont toujours là. «Vous ne devez pas croire. Vous dites à quelqu'un qu'il va mourir et il le croit et cela risque d'arriver." 

 

En conséquence, la chanteuse a lancé la Fondation Olivia Newton-John. «Je montrer au monde entier ce que nous faisons à Melbourne et essayer de trouver des traitements plus doux contre le cancer», a-t-elle déclaré.

«Je sais que beaucoup de gens utilisent le cannabis comme médicament en Australie; ils ne peuvent tout simplement pas l’obtenir facilement. «Pourquoi ne pas faciliter l'accès des gens, en particulier ceux qui souffrent ?

This historic photograph from the Royal Bicentennial Concert in 1988 features two of Australia’s most successful musical artists, Olivia Newton-John and Kylie Minogue. 

Today Kylie is the highest selling Australian-born artist of all time, but this image, taken over 30 years ago, depicts her early in her career. 

It was just one year after the release of ‘Locomotion’ (1987), which became the highest selling single of the 1980s in Australia. 

In this posed and yet delightfully candid photograph, the uncredited photographer has beautifully captured a starstruck Kylie standing next to Olivia. Kylie talks about growing up watching Grease (Randal Kleiser, USA, 1978) and idolising Olivia, and it’s obvious from the photo this is a huge moment for her.
