En 1978, elle incarne avec son célèbre partenaire de jeu, John Travolta, Sandy Olson dans le film Grease et le restera a jamais… Souvenons-nous de ses trois chansons Summer Nights, Hopelessly Devoted to You et You’re the One That I Want.

Ainsi, Olivia Newton-John a dédié sa vie à la musique. Dès les années 70, la chanteuse venait sur les plateaux de télévision française dans de grandes émissions de variétés comme Chœur en Fête ou Les Rendez-vous du dimanche.  Chaque année, les Oscars rendent aussi un hommage aux stars et cinéastes décédés au cours de l’année écoulée. Sur scène, John Travolta a d’ailleurs adressé un bouleversant message à Olivia Newton-John, disparue en août 2022.

En août 2022, le monde apprenait avec tristesse le décès de l’actrice Olivia Newton-John. L’actrice, alors âgée de 73 ans, se battait depuis quelques années contre un cancer du sein. De nombreuses stars comme Mariah Carey, Kate Hudson ou encore Nicole Kidman avaient alors honoré la mémoire de cette dernière sur les réseaux sociaux. 

John Travolta, sa co-star dans le film « Grease » avait également exprimé sa tristesse après la perte de son amie. Dans la nuit du 12 au 13 mars, à l’occasion de la 95e cérémonie des Oscars, l'acteur est d'ailleurs monté sur la scène du Dolby Theatre pour rendre une nouvelle fois hommage à Olivia Newton-John. 

 « NOUS RESTERONS TOUJOURS DÉSESPÉRÉMENT DÉVOUÉS » 

Avant que la vidéo qui rend hommage aux stars et cinéastes décédés en 2022 ne soit diffusée, John Travolta a pris la parole et a bien évidemment eu un mot pour Olivia Newton-John dans son discours : « Dans cette industrie, nous avons le rare luxe de pouvoir faire ce que nous aimons pour vivre, et parfois de le faire avec des gens que nous avons appris à aimer. Puisque ce soir est une célébration du travail et des réalisations de notre communauté et de l'année écoulée, il est tout à fait approprié de célébrer ceux que nous avons perdus et qui ont consacré leur vie à leur métier, à la fois devant et derrière la caméra », a-t-il d’abord déclaré. 

Visiblement très ému, l’acteur a fini en ayant une pensée pour Olivia Newton-John : « Ils ont touché nos cœurs. Ils nous ont fait sourire et sont devenus des amis chers auxquels nous resterons toujours désespérément dévoués. » Une belle référence qui n’a pas manqué de toucher également le public. Je crois qu'Olivia Newton-John aurait apprécié l'hommage qui lui a été rendu dimanche dernier ! "Simple" et de bon ton ! Le plus important était d'écouter son mari et sa fille ...

Les amis du "showbiz" n'étaient surement pas ceux qui partageait sa vie au quotidien ( à part Cliff Richard ).. ses vrais amis étaient dans la salle de manière anonyme ! En écoutant Delta Goodrem ... qui à fait le show et qui est une excellente chanteuse.. je comprend pourquoi j'aime tant la voix d'Olivia .. elle qui n'a jamais eu besoin de monter en puissance vocale !

En tout cas j'ai vraiment apprécié cet hommage !

John Travolta, Paul Hogan & more: All the famous friends of Olivia Newton John to attend her memorial

With a Hollywood career spanning over almost 50 years, it would be no surprise that A-list stars are making the trip to Australia for the celebration of ONJ's life.

This Sunday, February 26th at 4pm, fans, friends and family of Olivia will converge for a special state-hosted celebration of ONJ's live at the Hammer Hall Arts Centre.

Whilst Olivia's daughter Chloe Lattanzi and husband John Easterling are both based in the U.S, the two who were the closest to Olivia are, as expected, attending.

Chloe has just arrived in Melbourne ahead of the memorial on Sunday, after experiencing some issues with delayed flights.

John was the man who stayed by Olivia's side right until the end, and he told the Herald Sun that he will be speaking at the memorial, telling stories about his beloved wife that people had never heard before, "just to share some of the human side of what an extraordinary person she was."

But whilst family is a give-in to attend, there is some very well-known figures on the guest list for the service that fans have waited six months for.

Who is accepted to attend?

It has been reported by Seven that John Travolta will be making the trip from the U.S. for the service.

The two actors have a long history together, which began in 1978 when they became fast friends starring in the musical Grease together.

Paul Hogan formed a close bond with Olivia due to them being both of Australian origin, then making it big overseas, and it is reported that he will attend on Sunday.

Delta Goodrem, who played Olivia in the biopic of her life, will perform a six-minute medley of the biggest hits ONJ produced.

COMMEMORATION

Details of a state memorial service for Dame Olivia Newton-John have been revealed by the Victorian government ahead of the event later this month.

The acclaimed singer and actor died in August 2022 at her home in California after a long battle with breast cancer.

The memorial service in her honour will be held at Hamer Hall in Melbourne on February 26 and will include a performance by Delta Goodrem.

The event will be free but members of the public wishing to attend will have to register for a limited number of tickets.

Premier Daniel Andrews said the service was being planned in close consultation with Olivia Newton-John's family.

"Dame Olivia Newton-John was an inspiration to many around the world — her work in cancer research and treatment saved lives and changed lives and her music was the soundtrack to a generation," he said.

"We know Victorians are eager to celebrate the life of a driving force in medical research and an icon of film and music, with a service befitting her international acclaim."

Un service commémoratif suite au décès d'OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN aura lieu au Hamer Hall de Melbourne le 26 février et comprendra une performance de Delta Goodrem.

Mardi, Andrews s’exprimait devant le Olivia Newton-John Cancer & Wellness Centre de Melbourne et a été invité à faire le point sur le service.

Il a dit qu’il y avait des « questions en suspens ».

« Nous continuons à travailler avec la famille. La chose la plus importante est que leurs souhaits soient au premier plan de cela », a déclaré Andrews.

« Cela n’a pas été réglé. Il y a encore des questions en suspens et nous continuons à travailler avec la famille et c’est un peu difficile parce qu’évidemment certains sont ici et la plupart sont aux États-Unis et il s’agit de s’assurer que nous avons une voie à suivre.

« Nous sommes absolument respectueux du fait que leurs souhaits doivent être respectés et dès que nous aurons des nouvelles informations nous les partagerons avec vous. »

Music and film star Olivia Newton John died in August. The Australian singer sold more than 100 million record albums during her career. From 1973 to 1983, she was among the world’s most popular entertainers. She had 14 top 10 singles in the United States alone and won four Grammy awards.

But Newton-John might be most remembered for her performance in 1978’s popular musical movie Grease. She starred as Sandy, a new student at an American high school. There, she reconnects with her summer boyfriend.

Newton-John died of cancer at her home in California. She was 73.
