November 21, 1981 - 39 Years Ago Today: Olivia Newton-John began a 10-week run at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart with her single, "Physical." The Steve Kipner/Terry Shaddick-penned song was Newton John's 28th entry on the Hot 100 and her leadoff single from her album of the same name. The song was an enormous success reaching the top of the chart in its 8th week and remaining on top until Daryl Hall & John Oates' single, "I Can't Go For That (No Can Do)," took over the No. 1 position on January 30, 1982. Her follow-up single, "Make A Move On Me," reached No. 5, but surprisingly, the third single, "Landslide," failed to crack the Top 40 and stalled at No. 52. Nevertheless, the album reached the Top Ten peaking at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 Chart and was certified double Platinum. The single, "Physical," was certified Platinum for sales exceeding 2 million.
