Un arbre pour chaque enfant
The One Tree Per Child project is backed by a $300,000 Federal Government promise to deliver 100,000 trees and reach two million primary school pupils across Australia.
Environment Minister Greg Hunt used the occasion, which coincided with World Environment Day, to affirm his support for the project, co-founded by environmentalist John Dee and entertainer Olivia Newton-John.
“If every child plants a tree, it will not only make a difference to the environment but also to the way they think,” Mr Hunt said.
“Trees and forests are fundamental to biodiversity and to reducing emissions for the planet.
“We need to encourage schools from around Australia to officially participate.”
Waverley Council, home to Bondi Beach, and Bourke Shire Council have signed on as the first municipalities in the country to embrace One Tree Per Child.
