OLIVIA & JOHN’S NEW FILM
GREASE IS STILL THE WORD FOR THE HOPELESSLY DEVOTED FRIENDS
- New Idea
Now, New Idea can confirm John, 68, and Olivia, 73, are devising a third Grease film, which will reunite the friends on the big screen 44 years after the original 1978 film.
The pair, who didn’t appear in the 1982 sequel Grease 2,
which instead starred Michelle Pfeiffer and Maxwell Caulfield, remain close to this day. And insiders reveal they’re keen to prove to a new generation that Grease is still the word.
“Olivia and John have their entire careers to thank for that movie and they want to pay tribute to it,” dishes a source.
“Not to mention that it would also be a way to honour their lifelong friendship.”
Olivia, who is currently living with stage IV metastatic breast cancer, has been be one of John’s “biggest supports and shoulders to cry on”, after he lost his wife, actress Kelly Preston, to the same disease in 2020.
Hollywood sleuths confess that Olivia and John have long danced around the idea of doing a new Grease, and now the timing feels right to revisit Rydell High – but it’s not going to be a straightforward rewrite!
Indeed, New Idea has learnt the pair are plotting their project in collaboration with John’s 22-year-old daughter, Ella, who is set to star as Sandy and Danny’s daughter! Ella’s profile is on the rise after releasing her first single this year. “It’s been a long time coming, but I’m still that 14-year-old weird girl at heart and I love it. Hope you like it,” she told her 595,000 Instagram followers ahead of its release.
Ella is also starring in upcoming film Get Lost, an adaptation of Alice in Wonderland, later this year. “This Grease instalment will be nothing like the original, and have a new look and feel for a new generation – it will have a millennial touch,” explains
the source, who maintains Olivia and John believe Ella is the perfect actress for the project.
Both Olivia and John are said to be very excited by the new film.
“It’s bringing them closer together as families and friends – Ella already calls her ‘Aunty Liv,’” says the source.
Industry insiders say that while Olivia and John’s idea hasn’t been offered up to studios or streaming services, there’s already “plenty of buzz around town about it”.
While no doubt fans will love the film, insiders say what’s most special about the project is the fact it’s bringing together Olivia and John for a fun-filled collaboration. Over the years, the pair have been through heartbreaking personal pain and have relied very heavily on each other to pull through.
“There has been some very emotional times and many tears shed between John and Olivia, but thankfully, there’s been so many good times too,” says the source.
“Grease 3 is going to mean the world to them and their fans.”
‘THE NEW FILM WILL BE NOTHING LIKE THE ORIGINAL’
NEW HOPE AFTER PATRICK’S DISAPPEARANCE!
- New Idea
An unlikely friendship has been born of tragedy for Olivia Newton-john’s daughter, Chloe Lattanzi.
New Idea can reveal the 36-year-old is close with actress Yvette Nipar – ex-wife of Patrick Mcdermott, Olivia’s boyfriend who vanished from a fishing boat in LA in 2005.
“Distance hasn’t stopped them striking up a friendship,” shares a source, who says Chloe currently resides in LA, while Yvette is in Oregon.
While Patrick’s body was never recovered, there have been several alleged sightings of him over the years with a girlfriend in Mexico. The disappearance has been tough on Olivia and Chloe, but insiders say one silver lining from it all has been the friendship that eventuated out of it.
“Yvette and Chloe chat all the time, and Yvette often sends her little goodies like clothes,” the source shares.
“It’s really devastating. It’s been difficult for us,” Chloe told New Idea in 2016 of reports Patrick could still be alive, adding: “It’s hard, we lost someone.”
To this day, Yvette, 57, also shares a bond with Olivia, and is regularly spotted at the Aussie singer’s California ranch.
“Yvette calls her friendship with Chloe and Olivia the silver lining of losing Patrick in such a distressing way,” the source adds.
