Voters send Kelly, old rockers to top of singers poll

SUNDAY Herald Sun readers have voted Paul Kelly their favourite Australian solo singer.

Last weekend’s list of our top singers — topped by Olivia NewtonJohn — caused major debate and led to a flurry of reader comments and votes.

Kelly, who sat at No.11 in the original list, shot to No.1.

The biggest leap saw Russell Morris soar from No.28 to No.3 on the readers’ poll, while ONJ dropped to No.28. John Farnham took the No.2 spot, with Johnny O’Keefe at No.4 and James Reyne at No.5.

The original list was not a ranking of talent, rather it calculated album and chart positions (domestically and internationally), streams, YouTube views and awards.

To answer some reader comments, we focused on artists who achieved their success as solo acts, not fronting bands — such as Nick Cave, John Butler, Marc Hunter and Judith Durham — although some acts like Jimmy Barnes, Reyne and Daryl Braithwaite left famous bands to enjoy enormous solo success.

Readers voted superstars Keith Urban and Delta Goodrem as most overrated, joined by Sia, Gotye and Kasey Chambers.

Kelly and Morris were voted most underrated artists, joined by Peter Allen, O’Keefe and Farnham, whose career doesn’t seem to be suffering too much.

Cette semaine Les lecteurs du Herald Sun australiens ont élu Paul Kelly en tant que chanteur solo australien préféré.

La liste du week-end dernier des chanteurs australiens préférés - dominée par Olivia Newton-John - a provoqué un débat majeur et a provoqué une vague de commentaires et de votes des lecteurs. Paul Kelly, qui occupait le 11e rang lors de la précédente,est devenu le 1er dans le coeur des lecteurs !

Le plus grand saut a vu Russell Morris passer du n ° 28 au n ° 3 dans le sondage des lecteurs, tandis que ONJ est tombée à la 28ème place. John Farnham a pris la deuxième place, avec Johnny O’Keefe à la quatrième place et James Reyne à la cinquième place.

La liste d'origine n'était pas un classement des talents, elle calculait plutôt les positions d'album et de graphique (au niveau national et international), les flux, les vues sur YouTube et les diverses récompenses. 

Kylie Minogue ou Olivia Newton-John ne vivent pas en Australie .. la première fait carrière au Royaume Uni et en Europe, la seconde à bâtie la sienne essentiellement aux USA .. et ça explique sans doute ce classement ! Après ça n'est qu'un sondage ... de plus !
