FORTY years have passed since the world fell in love with the hit musical film Grease – and fans are still hopelessly devoted to it.
The same could be said for the film’s stars, Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta, who reunited for a particularly spirited red carpet appearance to celebrate the classic’s 40th anniversary in Los Angeles yesterday.
The original Sandy and Danny playfully re-enacted their famous dance moves from the movie’s hit song You’re The One That I Want ahead of a screening at the Samuel Goldwyn Theatre.
Based on a hit Broadway musical about the love affairs of 1950s high school students, the film, shot for $6 million, was initially slammed by critics. But it grossed almost $400 million – the most successful live-action movie musical until Mamma Mia! almost 30 years later. ASTRID TAEMETS
