SHE has followed in her musical footsteps – now Delta Goodrem has made her first appearance acting the part of Australia’s original pop princess, Olivia Newton-John.
The star (pictured) scored the role playing one of her career idols for a new Channel 7 mini-series late last year, but has been under contract with rival Nine ever since – filming House Husbands and in pre-production for a new season as coach on The Voice.
Despite initial claims Newton-John had baulked at Goodrem’s casting, both women have sung each other’s praises since, with the Grease star endorsing the ARIA winner as “a great choice ... wonderful”.
The first snapshots from the set show the clear resemblance between the singers, with Goodrem, 32, sporting a blonde wig reminiscent of New-
ton-John’s look from the early 1970s (inset).
Their personal stories are also similar, with Newton-John overcoming a 1992 breast cancer diagnosis and Goodrem beating her own 2003 battle with Hodgkin’s lymphoma at the age of 18.
They have also endured lots of scrutiny surrounding their love lives.
