Bandstand Live In Australia - The Shadows and Cilla Black 1968

Created by TCN-9 executive Bruce Gyngell and modelled on the successful American musical/variety show of the same name, Bandstand was hosted by the ever-charming Brian Henderson and set the TV standard for 14 entertaining years, showcasing the very best of Australian and international Pop and RockNRoll music of the 60s and 70s. 

In 1968 Bandstand celebrated two of Britains biggest recording acts - broadcasting studio performances of legendary guitar rock outfit THE SHADOWS and chanteuse sensation CILLA BLACK. 
Pioneers of the four-member instrumental format at the forefront of the UKs beat-group boom, The Shadows (Hank Marvin, Bruce Welch, John Farrar and Brian Bennett) deliver a guitar driven set list including Bombay Duck, The Day I Met Marie, Last Train To Clarksville, Dear Old Mrs Bell and The Rise And Fall of Fingal Bunt. 
Including a humorous sit down interview with Bruce and Hank, the show also features performances from Jesse Davis, American R&B group The Cookies, Allan Dean and local legend Olivia Newton-John singing Love Never Dies and Today (alongside Bandstand regular Pat Carroll). 

Superstar songstress Cilla Black delivers a string of her greatest hits including Youre My World, Follow Me, What The World Needs Now, Step Inside Love, Its For You, Suddenly You Love Me and joins Brian for an illuminating interview. Also featured on the show are performances from local crooner Don Spencer, guitarist George Golla and British folk singer Roger Whittaker.

Les australiens n'ont de cesse de rééditer quelques DVD retraçant l'age d'or de la pop pas seulement australienne du début des années 60 au début des années 70.

En 1968, l'Australian Bandstand, basé sur le même modèle américain, célébrait le groupe légendaire The Shadow et la superstar anglaise de l'époque Cilla Black. 

Olivia Newton-John est alors tout au début de sa carrière. On la retrouve sur ce dernier volume  interprètant Love Never Dies en solo et Today avec Pat Carroll .

Le DVD n'est pas zoné .. donc il est possible de le lire aux USA et dans le reste du monde !

- Marvin & Farrar

Premier groupe de rock européen en 1958, The Shadows accumulent les succès internationaux dès le début de leur carrière, d'abord en compagnie de Cliff Richard, l'un des artistes les plus vendus en Angleterre (plus de 250 millions de disques vendus à ce jour), puis en solo, avec des titres généralement instrumentaux. 
Après une brève séparation, ils se produisent en tant que Marvin, Welch & Farrar de 1971 à 1973. 
En 1972, cependant, Bruce Welch quittera le trio. Le groupe n'avait pas été à la hauteur de ses attentes. Le duo enregistrera un seul album en tant que Marvin & Farrar. On y retrouvera pourtant le titre MUSIC MAKES MY DAY qui réunissait les 3 artistes. 
Olivia Newton-John s'est aussi amusé à jouer de la flûte à bec ! Ce sera également le titre de son troisième album solo produit par John Farrar.

Hank Marvin a été moins enthousiastes à l'idée de cet album en commun : "il manquait une direction à cet album. C'était un peu comme si Frankenstein rencontrait les Beach Boys."

Le duo reprendra aussi une composition co-écrite par John Farrar pour le 2ème album d'Olivia Newton-John.

John Farrar quittera les Shadows en 1975 pour se consacrer pleinement à la carrière d'Olivia Newton-John partie s'installer aux USA.
