 Sir Cliff Richard a révélé qu’il sortira un nouvel album pour célébrer ses 65 ans dans l’industrie de la musique avec un hommage spécial à Olivia Newton-John.

Le chanteur, âgé de 82 ans, a enregistré des versions orchestrales de ses plus grands succès, intitulées Cliff with Strings - My Kinda Life, dont la sortie est prévue le 3 novembre.

Dans son annonce de l’album, il a également révélé qu’il contiendra une version retravaillée de son duo avec Olivia Suddenly en mémoire de la star décédée.

Olivia est décédée tragiquement à l’âge de 73 ans le 8 août dernier dans son ranch du sud de la Californie après la bataille de 30 ans de la star de Grease contre le cancer du sein.

Le morceau le plus émouvant de l’album pour moi est Suddenly avec ma très chère amie Olivia Newton-John. « Nous avons enregistré cette version ensemble en live pour mon 75e anniversaire en 2015 et cela me frappe toujours de voir à quel point nos voix sonnaient bien ensemble et la gentillesse  qu’Olivia a toujours réussi à dégager. »

Il a ajouté: « Je suis heureux d’avoir pu souligner à nouveau cette grande performance. »

Suddenly a été enregistré à l’origine par Cliff et Olivia en 1980 pour le film Xanadu.

Le nouvel arrangement a été créé par Chris Walden et est censé apporter « une beauté émotionnelle » à leurs voix en harmonie.

Cliff et Olivia partageaient une longue amitié et lui et son manager avaient beaucoup fait pour aider Olivia à construire sa carrière en l’invitant à apparaître dans sa première série télévisée de la BBC dans les années 70.

SIR Cliff Richard has announced the release of an orchestral album which celebrates his 65th year in the music industry and features a song with his “dear friend” Olivia Newton-John.

Cliff With Strings – My Kinda Life comprises seven decades of hits including Living Doll, Summer Holiday, We Don’t Talk Anymore and Suddenly, with the late Newton-John.

Discussing the album, Sir Cliff, 82, said: “After 65 years in the business, it is really an emotional journey to listen back to some of my original vocals and hear just how young I was, and how my style changed over the years.

“These tracks mean a lot to me and they are so refreshed with the orchestral arrangements.

“The most emotional track on the album for me is Suddenly with my dear friend Olivia NewtonJohn.

“We recorded this version together live for my 75th birthday in 2015 and it always strikes me how well our voices sounded together, and the crystal gentility that Olivia always managed to exude.

“I’m glad I was able to highlight this great performance again.”

Newton-John, who had an extensive career in music and was known for playing Sandy in the 1978 film Grease, died last year aged 73.

Sir Cliff’s new album is a compilation of his biggest hits and favourite tracks, with orchestral arrangements from composer Chris Walden.

The collection includes the

1999 recording from Richard’s performance of Everything I Do (I Do It For You) at his Countdown Concert celebrating the millennium.

Cliff With Strings - My Kinda Life will be available digitally and on CD on East West Records from November 3, with the vinyl release set for November 24.
