Passionate Plea

Aussie icon Olivia Newton-John has made a passionate plea for those ignoring social distancing rules to think of the impact their actions could have on the more vulnerable members of the community.

The 71-year-old performer, who is battling breast cancer for the third time, joined Jonesy & Amanda to chat about the current social climate and the impact COVID-19 could have on her.

“It’s a very difficult time but the whole planet is going through it, and it’s kind of a great unifier in a way… it’s a test of how well we regard each other,” she explained.

“When they had the Spanish Flu, they had no way of communicating the way that they do now so that is lucky in a way that we can stop the spread if we pay attention and do what we’re asked.

She added, “But we can do it, it’s for the good of all of us… I hope the young people listen because I remember when you’re young, you think you’re invulnerable to these things but unfortunately it’s affecting all of us. They need to listen to protect their parents and grandparents.”

Olivia also took the time to send her love to all of us in Australia, saying: “I think of you all and everybody that I know in Australia. I miss you guys and I wish I could be in two places at once so I was really torn when I had to leave.”

Her final message? “Stay well, stay healthy, wash your hands and keep your distance!”

L'icône australienne Olivia Newton-John a lancé un appel à ceux qui ignorent les règles de distanciation sociale pour réfléchir à l'impact que leurs actions pourraient avoir sur les membres les plus vulnérables de la communauté.

L'interprète de 71 ans, qui lutte contre le cancer du sein pour la troisième fois, a rejoint les animateurs australiens Jonesy & Amanda pour discuter du climat social actuel et de l'impact que le COVID-19 pourrait avoir sur elle.

"C'est une période très difficile, mais la planète entière traverse cette période, et c'est en quelque sorte rassembleur ... c'est un test sur la façon dont nous nous considérons", a-t-elle expliqué.

"Quand ils ont eu la grippe espagnole, ils n'avaient aucun moyen de communiquer comme ils le font maintenant, c'est une chance que nous puissions arrêter la propagation si nous prêtons attention et faisons ce qu'on nous demande."

Elle a ajouté: «Mais nous pouvons le faire, c'est pour notre bien à tous… J'espère que les jeunes écoutent parce que je me souviens quand vous êtes jeune, vous pensez que vous êtes invulnérable à ces choses mais malheureusement cela nous affecte tous . Ils doivent écouter pour protéger leurs parents et grands-parents. »

Olivia a également pris le temps d'envoyer son amour à eux tous en Australie, en disant: «Je pense à vous tous et à tous ceux que je connais en Australie. Vous me manquez et j'aimerais pouvoir être à deux endroits à la fois, donc j'étais vraiment déchiré lorsque j'ai du partir. »

Son dernier message? "Restez bien, restez en bonne santé, lavez-vous les mains et gardez vos distances!"
