SUPERSTAR OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN says Australian authorities must change laws to make medicinal cannabis available to cancer patients. Newton-John, 70 (left), who is keeping a positive outlook about her third battle with cancer, takes various cannabis formulas made by her husband,

JOHN EASTERLING.

Easterling has a cannabis farm in California, where the plant is legal. “(Easterling) is very knowledgeable about it all and he grows a specific strain for me to manage pain and sleep,” Newton-John said. “I think (medicinal cannabis) should be available for everyone. Here we have a plant that was put on this earth for a reason. It’s been maligned for a long time.

“But it helps with MS, Parkinson’s disease and kids with epilepsy. I’m horrified that, in Australia, they take away the rights of parents to use this for (sick) children. “The possibilities are huge. “It’s not a drug, it’s a plant and it’s best used that way.”

She said Australian politicians should “do the research, adding: “The main message is really obvious: opiates kill, cannabis doesn’t.

“Cannabis provides relief from pain and nausea and anxiety.”

Newton-John is home for her annual wellness walk to raise money for the ONJ Cancer Wellness and Research Centre at the Austin Hospital.

The walk will take place at the Bundoora campus of La Trobe University on Sunday.

“With every walk, the most important thing I dream of is an end to cancer,” she said.

Newton-John is also home to promote her autobiography, Don’t Stop Believing.

She said it was time to reflect on her life, but also an opportunity to respond to Channel 7’s ONJ biopic.

“When I was told Channel Seven was doing a story of my life, and I had no input on it, I felt I had to tell my side of the story,” she said.
