Thousands in attendance sang along to the Aussie’s songs, which were performed by ex-Neighbours star Delta Goodrem, 38. Dolly Parton, 77, opened the tributes in a video message, saying: “The world lost one of its greatest talents when Olivia left us.”

Sir Elton John, 75, said: “She was such a wonderful force of nature but she was funny, she was kind, she was warm and she was talented and every time we got together we laughed and laughed.’’ Nicole Kidman, 55, added: “She was just a light in this world. “I would perform her songs, when I first saw Grease, I was like ‘I want to be Olivia Newton-John’.” Mariah Carey, Sir Cliff Richard and Barry Gibb also left messages for the service at Hamer Hall, Melbourne, Australia. Olivia’s husband John Easterling, 70, said: “Every day with her was a bit of magic. She was the most courageous woman I’ve ever met.” Her daughter Chloe Lattanzi, 37, added: “My mum could find the beauty in everything. My favourite thing to do was watch her watching the birds and the flowers, smelling her roses.

Natalie Barr: Sunrise host left show to interview Olivia Newton John’s family Chloe Lattanzi, John Easterling

After making headlines this morning for abruptly leaving Channel Seven’s breakfast show to go and score an exclusive interview, Natalie Barr took to Instagram to reveal who she sat down with.

Olivia Newton John’s daughter Chloe Lattanzi and Newton John’s late husband John Easterling will open up like never before since the Grease star’s death.

After supporting her mother’s 30-year battle with breast cancer, Lattanzi tells Sunrise she has been inspired to continue her work as a wellness warrior.

“Seeing what people go through with cancer, there’s no greater mission.”

In awe of her mother’s grace in her final days, Lattanzi reveals “she was just so courageous and woke up every day with a smile.”

Barr shared a photo with Lattanzi and Easterling on her Instagram after it was revealed she had flown to Melbourne to interview them.

“I’ve just sat down with Olivia Newton John’s daughter and husband for a really lovely chat. It’s an emotional interview but also a funny one,” Barr said.

“It seems Australia’s sweetheart had another wickedly funny side she rarely showed any of us.” Channel Seven has revealed the family will be making a special announcement during their interview. Newton-John was farewelled at an emotional send-off this past Sunday in Melbourne where Delta Goodrem performed.

HEARTHBREAKING TRIBUTE

A touching and emotional state memorial service has been held for Dame Olivia Newton-John in Melbourne.

Pop royalty tributes at ONJ’s service

MUSIC royalty Elton John, P!nk and Mariah Carey will share their memories of Olivia Newton-John at her State memorial service.

The superstars have recorded video messages for the iconic Australian singer, who died aged 73 in August last year after a long cancer battle.

The service at Melbourne’s Hamer Hall at 4pm on Sunday will be a “celebration of life” for the 73-year-old who became a household name around the world after starring in Grease in the 1970s.

“Olivia Newton John to me was someone who I always look forward to seeing – she was such a wonderful force of nature,” Elton John will tell the memorial.

Mariah Carey will say she grew up adoring Newton-John: “Grease was probably the first movie I ever saw. And then I got to meet her later and we performed together.”

P!nk said Newton-John was “an absolute angel’.

“She was one of the kindest, most present, just light-filled beings walking around this earth.”

Newton-John’s husband John Easterling has revealed how fitting the location is for the state memorial service. One of her dying wishes, he said, was to be farewelled in the city she moved to with her family at age five. While she didn’t speak much about what would happen after her death, he said he knew she wanted one last connection with Australians.

“It’s not something we talked a lot about (but) she did know that she would like to have something in Australia as a special exchange at the end,” Mr Easterling said.

Mr Easterling, and Olivia’s daughter, Chloe Lattanzi, yesterday returned to one of her favourite places in the world, Melbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens – a peaceful paradise far removed from Hollywood and the showbiz lifestyle.

“It was a very private place for Olivia,” Royal Botanic Gardens director and chief executive, Professor Tim Entwisle said.

“It was somewhere to find solace and peace, and connect with nature.”

Her mother, Irene Born, would take young Olivia to the gardens at every opportunity. Irene passed away in 2003 and there is a memorial bench, dedicated to her in the gardens.

Mr Easterling, Ms Lattanzi, and Olivia’s niece Tottie Goldsmith, will pay tribute at the service on behalf of her family.

CELEBRITIES SAY GOODBYE TO OLIVIA

CELEBRITIES gathered at Melbourne’s Hamer Hall on Sunday to farewell legendary Australian singer Olivia Newton-john at her State Memorial Service.

In attendance were Kate Ceberano, Molly Meldrum, Delta Goodrem, Dannii Minogue, Human Nature’s Phil Burton and Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews, as well as Newton-john’s husband John Easterling and daughter Chloe Lattanzi. Multicultural Affairs Minister

Andrew Giles attended, representing Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, who was unable to attend due to commitments in Sydney.

Speaking to Channel 7, singer Delta Goodrem looked visibly emotional talking about her mentor.

“It is beautiful to see everybody coming out,” she said.

“(I’m) so happy to see everybody coming together on a day to celebrate someone who touched all our lives.

“I think that is really what it is. Seeing everybody just come together and being able to honour and celebrate

Olivia is incredibly special.”

Minogue credited Newton-john as a key inspiration for her career.

“She is literally the reason why I started performing and I was lucky enough to tell her that the first time that we met.

“She is a great friend of mine,” she told Channel 7.

On Sunday afternoon, Minogue shared a photo of herself with the Grease star and fellow singer Tottie

Goldsmith, with a touching tribute to the late actress.

“I perform because of one person, Olivia Newton-john. She has had me transfixed since I saw her as Sandy in Grease,” she said.

“I have had the most incredible moments with her and the beautiful Tottie Goldsmith, who has the same sparkle and shine.”

Mourners were asked to wear “a touch of orange” in a tribute to the singer’s favourite colour, with an orange red carpet rolled out for the service.

Husband’s shattering tribute to ‘magic’ ONJ

OLIVIA Newton-John’s husband John Easterling has shared an emotional tribute to the late singer, giving a rare insight into their marriage. Easterling led a lengthy list of heartwarming tributes from celebrities and family, including her daughter Chloe Lattanzi, at Melbourne’s Hamer Hall for the State Memorial Service.

The businessman said that despite not being familiar with her music when they first met, he described the late singer as a “healer”, and described her ability to perform as a “piece of magic”. Easterling’s voice began to break while describing their life “supernatural” together. “Every day with Olivia was a bit of magic,” he said. “She said to me ‘John, when you are lucky enough to find your true soulmate and you share a heart, and one passes, the other has the obligation to live life for both’.

“We were talking about how lucky we were to have found each other and how in love we were.” Easterling also said he believed he felt the singer’s spirit in the days after her death. “A couple of nights after Olivia passed, I was lying in bed and I felt her hand over my diaphragm lifting out and I started breathing again,” he said.

Daughter Chloe described her mother’s sense of humour, love of nature, and her ability to “find the beauty in everything”.

“I stand here before you so desperately wanting to feel strong and confident and speak eloquently. But the truth is, I feel like a little girl lost without her mother,” she said.

“I can hear her voice: ‘You are safe, my darling. Don’t be afraid. You are so much stronger than you think. Speak from your heart. That’s all you have to do’”.

Thousands pay tribute to Olivia NewtonJohn at Australian memorial service

A host of international stars and dignitaries paid tribute to the late Australian star Olivia Newton-John in at a state memorial service in Melbourne on Sunday.

Thousands gathered at Hamer Hall and video tributes came from Elton John, Hugh Jackman, Dolly Parton, Pink, Barry Gibb and Mariah Carey.

Newton-John, who has a string of No 1 hits worldwide and starred in movies such as Grease and Xanadu, died in August, aged 73.

Members of Newton-John’s family also gave touching tributes, with her husband, John Easterling, saying she was a “healer”.

“You have to understand, I wasn’t an Olivia fan, I didn’t know any Olivia music, I’d never even seen Grease,” he began to laughs from the audience.

“But at this small theatre in Miami, she started singing Pearls on a Chain, and there was this healing moving through the audience. And it hit me like a laser beam in the chest, that Olivia was a healer, and this was one of her mediums of healing.”

Easterling faltered throughout his speech, but was able to recall some of the conversations in the lead up to their engagement.

“We’d each had some hard times in our life before, like everyone has.”

“And we were just talking about how lucky we were, to have found each other, and how in love we were and how much happiness we were experiencing.”

“In an order of magnitude where we thought maybe we should feel guilty because we were so happy, but we decided we’d feel gratitude and just let the happiness run at full throttle.”

Newton-John’s daughter, Chloe Lattanzi, followed with an emotive speech that was met with a standing ovation, where she remembered how loving her mother was.

“We loved watching our trashy TV shows together and immediately changed the channel when John walked in the room. We pretended we were watching educational shows about plant medicine,” she remembered.

“My favourite thing to do was watch her watching the birds and the flowers, smelling her roses and the joy it brought to her face was a thing of beauty. I loved making her tea and then making it five times again until I got it right.

“I loved our snuggles. I would crawl into bed with her late at night, even if I was 20 years old. I loved the way she smelled. I love how she loved fully and completely.”

Many viewers took to social media to share how touching the service was, and how much they loved NewtonJohn:

Australian singer Delta Goodrem took to the stage to sing a medley of Newton-John’s most popular hits, to a mostly rapturous audience in person and online:

A host of stars paid tribute to Newton-John via video link, with Sir Elton John saying her “bravery and optimism” would stay with him for ever.

“She was such a wonderful force of nature, she was funny, kind, warm and talented and every time we got together we laughed and laughed and laughed. Throughout her career I have watched her grow and grow and grow to be the artist she became.”

Country star Dolly Parton said she “honestly loved” Newton John, and said she grieved along with Australia.

“As a country, you should be very proud and know that the whole world mourns with you. Now, I had the honour of singing with her several times. I considered her a great friend as well as a fellow entertainer. Olivia, to quote one of your songs, “I honestly love you”. Thank you for shining your light on us.”

Veteran Australian television reporter and Newton-John friend Richard Wilkins, delivered a tribute on behalf of the entertainment industry, where he remembered her generosity and “nurturing” presence.

“While she was a huge global star, it took a certain character to embrace the role and maintain it. It took a capacity and willingness to be a public figure and to do so with integrity, wholeheartedly and consistently.”

Two staff members at the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research centre also paid tribute to the late star, praising her dedication and passion for the cause.

“When talking to our students, it was Olivia’s warmth and her easygoing personality, her authenticity that reinforced their conviction to dedicate their careers to one of the most destructive health challenges of our time,” Prof Matthias Ernst said.
