Olivia Newton-John se remet lentement mais sûrement de la bouleversante disparition de sa soeur Rona, l'an dernier, des suites d'une tumeur au cerveau dévastatrice. Un tragique événement qui l'a contrainte à repousser le lancement de sa résidence à Las Vegas. "J'aurais dû commencer il y a un an, mais pour la première fois de ma vie, je me suis sentie incapable de chanter", se souvient-elle, faisant référence à ce décès.
C'est le mardi 8 avril que le coup d'envoi de cette première série de 45 concerts a été donné. Vendredi 11 avril, la presse et quelques-uns de ses plus fidèles amis du métier avaient fait le déplacement pour assister à ce show tant attendu. A ses côtés pour la soutenir, Marie Osmond et Donny Osmond, qui se produisent également sur la scène du Flamingo Las Vegas en alternance avec Olivia Newton-John, avaient fait le déplacement.
Le transformiste RuPaul et l'acteur Joey Lawrence, ex-enfant star révélé par le film Oliver et Compagnie, étaient eux aussi aux premières loges. Enfin, John Easterling, l'époux d'Olivia Newton-John, n'aurait manqué ce spectacle pour rien au monde. C'est fier et amoureux qu'il a posé aux côtés de son épouse, face aux photographes.

Olivia Newton-John’s nonstop hits thrill Marie Osmond — Flamingo ‘showroom is in good hands’
British-born, Australia-raised Olivia Newton-John returned to conquer the Strip with her new “Summer Nights” limited-run residency at the Flamingo, and she received a warm welcome Friday night at her grand opening at the Donny & Marie Showroom from resident Marie Osmond.
“We’re on a week’s vacation,” Marie told me (Donny was away in San Diego). “And on my first night out of the house, I had to see Olivia. I wanted her to feel very welcomed to our showroom. She was absolutely great — a pitch-perfect performance.
“Every vocal was fantastic, and I sang along to every one of them. I haven’t seen her movie ‘Grease’ 100 times like some in the audience claimed, but definitely a few times. I know all the words to ‘Summer Nights.’ ”
Olivia’s longtime friends, producers, songwriters and co-performers John and Pat Farrar were in the audience Friday night leading the cheers, long applause and standing-ovation finale with Olivia’s husband John Easterling celebrating his birthday.
